[Gemma's POV]

My leg wouldn't stop shaking the whole journey on the jet. I didn't know if I was nervous for me, or for everyone else. When I wasn't on the missions I could switch off from the fact that all of my loved ones were in danger a bit more, but being on the missions, and as a lookout, frightened the hell out of me. What if someone was getting hurt and I couldn't do anything to stop it?

Peter put his hand on my knee, 'Hey, it'll be okay.' He tried to reassure me, but it wasn't really working, but all the same I nodded in response.

After about 20 minutes we got to the building the OCTAGON facility was supposed to be at. Natasha parked the jet on the roof of a nearby building just around the corner from the facility and the rest of them prepared for the raid. 'Be safe.' I said to them all as they got off, Peter ran up to me and kissed me quickly, 'You too.' He added, then he put on his mask and got off with the rest of them. Natasha shut the hanger door and turned the cloaking on. We sat at the operations desk and I waited for her to hack into the security cameras.

'You okay sweetie?' Natasha asked but all I could respond was a mumble.

Once we were into the security network I put on the headphones and pulled up the blueprints to the building. It didn't seem like there was anyone there, but Natasha could read heat signatures all over the place. Suddenly I could see someone. 'Clint! To your right!' I shouted into the mic. He spun around and shot a stun arrow just in front of the guy, knocking him flat out,
'Thanks, Gem, but next time you don't need to shout it.' Clint teased and walked around the corner. We watched them look around for a bit longer until dad found a computer room, when he turned one on there was the OCTAGON logo on the screen. He plugged in one of his flash drives into the computer and started downloading the database.

Natasha was talking to Steve over the earpieces and suddenly loads of OCTAGON agents started swamping him, 'Wanda, Clint, Steve needs help on the third floor, south corridor.' I said into the mic,
'On it.' Both of them replied. Peter was busy checking out some of the other rooms but couldn't find anything that looked helpful,
'Guys, something's not right. My spider senses are going off the charts.' He declared worriedly,
'Let me check the cameras on the outside of the jet.' Natasha said and she started tapping away on the keyboard. I just watched all of the monitors; Peter was right, something did seem off. That's when I saw it,
'Nat, there's someone on the roof opposite us.' Her head darted up,
'Okay, stay here, Gem, I'm going to go check it out. Someone, we need backup here and on the roof of that building.' Nat said to all of us,
'I can handle myself.' I insisted but nobody listened,
'I'm on my way.' Peter replied.

I sat on the jet, looking at the monitors, nothing new was happening, when all of a sudden, I heard a loud noise come from outside the jet. I took off the headphones and went to have a look, I saw a woman all in black coming right for me. I shot her with an ice blast and she went down. See, I can handle myself, I thought rather smugly, but I then felt a stabbing pain in my back, and fell to the floor, 'Agh!' I shouted, I couldn't move. Another woman leant over me. She whipped out a needle and withdrew some blood from my leg, then I felt that stabbing pain in my back again and I blacked out.

When I awoke I was in my bed back at home. Peter was asleep next to me and dad was sat on my chair on one of his tablets. I sat up, my back was still a little sore and I winced slightly, this made Peter shoot up, 'Gem, be careful!' He said, trying to help me up,
'I'm fine!' I urged but that didn't stop him from trying to help me. 'What happened? Why did they take my blood?' I had so many more questions but they were the most important. Dad rubbed his forehead with his hand,
'Gem, we think they were trying to get to you all along. There was nothing on the flash drive it was just a load of empty files. They must know you're your mom's daughter.' I was stunned, how could they know? Nobody even knew I existed until a few months ago. Unless they knew of me from before mom died.
'So they took my blood, what? To test it?' I asked, dad bowed his head. I knew the look on his face, he was disappointed in himself. 'Dad, I'm fine it will be okay.' I tried to reassure him, but I knew nothing I said would make him feel better.
'I know peanut, I just worry.' He came up to me and kissed the top of my head, 'I'll leave you two-' He looked like he wanted to say something else, holding up a finger, before deciding that it was probably best not to and he walked out.

'Are you sure you're okay? Because if you're not, we can take you up to the med bay, you just seemed fine so we put you here instead-' Peter rambled but I interrupted him with a kiss, a long and deep kiss. 'What was that for?' He asked trying to hide his smile,
'Had to shut you up somehow.' I joked, biting my lip,
'Oh so that's how it is?' He teased, and kissed me back, even more deeply than I had him. It was like I was his oxygen, and he needed me, relied on me. Like I was his everything.

After a while, Peter and I went downstairs to find everyone in the briefing room, 'Weren't you going to call us down too?' I asked a little annoyed, to Steve who was stood at the front of the room, as Peter and I sat down next to each other at the table. 'We we're just going to do a debrief and you seemed, um...' Steve started, his cheeks flushing pink with second hand embarrassment. He coughed and continued, 'Anyway, we tried to ID as many of the agents as possible but barely any of them are on our database, except this man.' He clicked a button on the remote and a picture of a man with a buzz cut flashed onto the screen. Peter leaned forward to concentrate, but it looked like more than that.

'This is Ray Johnson, he used to work for S.H.I.E.L.D until he suddenly quit and went missing about 11 years ago. Then he popped up again is Los Angeles the day after your mom was killed Gem. Nobody has seen him since, until a few weeks ago, and then again today.' Steve explained and Peter sat up straight in his chair,
"Is that why Happy went with you to LA? Being head of security at the time and all." I asked, everything finally starting to make a bit more sense.
"Yes, exactly." Dad replied.

While we were talking, Peter looked very concerned but sat in silence, until he said, 'I know him.' surprising us all,
'How?' Dad questioned, with a concerned expression.
'Ages ago now, I was out just doing Spider-Man work and while I was waiting for something for me to do, that guy,' he pointed at the photo of the man, 'he was watching me, but when I saw him, he ran off to phone someone saying they were definitely right about something, but I don't know what.' Peter said and it made dad and Steve look pretty uneasy,
'What dad?' I asked worriedly, I didn't like when one of them looked worried, let alone both.

'What if they know who I am?' Peter suddenly realised which only made everyone look even more worried- including Peter. I grabbed his hand and squeezed it gently and he looked at me scared; I had never seen him look scared before and I didn't like it. 'We can keep you here kid if you want, to keep you safe.' Steve said trying to help,
'It'll be fine, it's Christmas break now so we've got a few weeks off, and no doubt I'll be here most of the time anyway.' He turned to look at me and I gave him a slight smile, 'I'll just make sure I'm extra careful.' I knew he would be able to take care of himself, we all did, but it didn't make the situation of him being in danger any less nerve racking.
