Chapter 15 - Battle of Brancel

The massive army lurches towards the town. The massive fireball has left a big gaping hole on the town walls, the townsfolk are now in disarray and are trying to form a defensive line on the breached wall. The whole brunt of the army made up of beast are coming from the North of the town, the forward base is on the Western side.

They are outnumbered by a good margin. From atop a hill, soldiers are giving the Prince and the officers intelligence on what is going on. The afternoon skies are covered by ominous dark clouds a sign of an impending thunderstorm.

"Should we help?" the Prince then asked the officers with him.

"We can engage them in a good distance, we could help them your Highness." 1st Lt. Crowall then said.

"But we don't have a good reason to help them, besides we need clearance from the top to engage them." 2nd Lt. Macres then added.

"In situation like this, the Prince has authority to give his command. Any kinetic actions now are justifiable, considering human lives are on the line." the Lt. Col. then said as he observes the map, created by the surveillance planes.

"Monsters are attacking a human settlement, it's more than enough for a reason to take action." the Prince said, leaving everyone to agree.

They have the means to defend them and they cannot exactly stand by and watch as a whole town is being massacred. Even though they acted as hostiles as before, they are still human afterall. Besides, one of the arguments the Prince added is that, they can use this opportunity to improve the relations between the two countries.

He disclosed the information when he was "captured" by the townsfolk. Top military and government officials at first couldn't believe his statement. But seeing the reality beyond their borders, they can't dismiss the possibility that it is indeed true.

Thus, the troops got ready. They've geared up, engines revving, artillery have fixed their firing solutions. All weapons are hot. They are only waiting for the final order.

The invading army was greeted by a barrage of arrows from the town, even if they dealt casualties on the hostile army it doesn't impede their advance. Thus the massive army of monsters broke through the already broken walls of the town. They are met with the soldiers and townsfolk armed with their iron weapons.

The cries of the crashing army can be heard from the forwad operating base.

Thus the Prince finally gave the order. "The Operation to defend the town is a go! You have weapons free, engage any hostile threatening the townsfolk. Protect the town of Brancel at all costs"

As such, the artillery were first on the action.

"Firing solutions set! Loading HE round!" the commander on one of the three M109 SPG's said over the radio.

"Fire!"

"Firing!" a crew memeer replied as he pulls the line on the gun.

The massive 155mm guns simultaneously fired. Sending a 155mm High Explosive round towards the invading army. Their range is almost at point blank thus within seconds the explosions quickly rattled throughout the surroundings. The artillery is acting like a direct fire support. The sound of gunfire was then quickly followed by an ominous thunderclap and began to rain.

The soldiers then took a peek to see the damage. A good portion of the invading army was blown to pieces.

"Danger close!" a forward observer then shouted to the radio.

Letting the artillery men to know and be able to adjust their guns.

As soon as the artillery fired, the Cardonian Army mobilizes. The Leopard tanks and APC's hurriedly make their way towards the town. It would only take them a couple of minutes to reach them.
