Chapter 18 - Imminent Threat

The discovery of the patrol ship Diana immediately became a state secret. Top military officials are beginning to devise a plan for a defensive countermeasure. This is hours before the Battle of Brancel took place. The Navy was put on a high alert and has summoned respective crews of their ships.

Half of the Cardonian fleet are stationed on this Eastern side of the country. A good number of Frigates and Corvettes are stationed on the naval base of the City of Cleos in the region Coigor. This coastal city is located at the North East of the country, known for its vast iron ore deposits, together with some mineral deposits and wheat fields, it is one of the most important provinces of the country.

The wealth of the province could be seen at the city of Cleos. This is also where the patrol ship Diana is based at, thus when they've arrived, the crew of Crelant wondered at the city full of tall glass buildings. It size cannot be even compared to that of their Capital of Archesia. They were taken in at the nearby naval base in which they were provided accomodations. They were able to see the massive iron ships of the Cardonian Navy. Although they were surprised that there were only not even a dozen ships port.

"Did they get broke on building the city that they only a few dozen ships?" an officer asked Captain Lectander. But was overheard by Captain Cristoph as he and his officers escort the whole crew of Crelant towards the navy base.

"That is our largest navy ship, the 'Pioneer', safe to say she's ten times stronger to my ship, the Diana" Captain Cristoph said as he points towards the first grey ship at the port. It's very odd looking for the crew of Crelant, no matter how they tried to make sense of it, the ship is mysterious.

The Pioneer is the second ship of the Scout Class frigate of the Cardonian Navy, a subclass of the famous Oliver Hazard Perry Frigates of the United States Navy. Heavily modified and modernized to suit the requirements of the navy, visible differences to regular ships of her class are the Mk.41 Vertical Launch System, forward of her Mk.13 Missile Launcher. Quadruple Cardonian Anti-ship missile, the Lancer Mk.3 can be seen in the same position of those of the Taiwanese example and a modern set of radars and fire control.

These ships are due for replacement, the third ship of the class were already sold to a South American navy. Her replacement is a derivative of the Alvaro de Bazan AEGIS frigate of the Spanish Navy. The lead ship, the "Emperor" is in her final sea trial test before commisioning, the "King" is in her final fitting out and the "Chancellor" was only recently launched. The navy though has doubts on the design of the new ships as it seems they have critical design flaws.

The crew of Crelant was accomodated and greeted by the top Navy brass. They've provided an accomodation for the crew before they can be handed over back to their Kingdom. The official informed them that their is an issue between the two countries, as recently their Princess held their Crown Prince as hostage. Thus before they were to return back to their country, they need to iron things out.

This spreads doubt between the crew of Crelant. It seems they've became a political tool in what seems a dispute between their countries. One of the doubts of their Captain, is that their Princess once again bacame rash on her actions. He was one of her mentors, he provided seamanship lessons to her Princess.

This is then became one of the issues brought up by the Prince on their meeting meeting with the officials of Archesia. He discloses the encounter a day before between their naval forces. And currently two hundred sailors are kept im custody in ome of their naval bases. Suddenly, Cardonia had a bargaining chip towards the hostile Princess. Leading to her finally, giving in and to make better relations with Cardonia.

But between all of this, the Prince promised the Princess Jahleel that his country will provide reparations to finally heal the wounds between the two countries. An economic and security deal are also being ironed out, and Cardonian diplomats might be knocking on their Capital soomer than expected.

He also provided data that patrol ship Diana has gathered. Dozens of printed pictures on A4 bond paper are handed out to the Princess and her officials. They've wondered on the quality of paper and of course the photos with it.

It seems the Empire of Scolus has over one thousand ships docked at their port. As disclosed by one of the Knights, it seems half of their naval forces are there. It consist of large to small sailing ships, from 1st rate ship of the line, to the common brig. But the amount of their sailing ships make the British Royal Navy in their age of sail as just some regional navy.

That then put the Cardonian officials at unrest. A threat of such a large country seems to be imminent. The Cardonian Navy is no doubt could handle their primitive navy. But the army they brought is a concern, figure of 50-80,000 strong army is stationed at the fortress city of Schielde and more are on the way.

A knight then bursts "Damned Empire, after they took the continent of the Demi-humans, they are setting their fangs at us?!"

The demi-humans he said are that of the lizardmen and other sub species as seen on the Battle of Brancel. These species pertains to animal that is half human or even animal that have humanoid characteristics. It seems a couple of years ago, the Empire invaded and colonized their continent on the North East. The Empire thought to be allied with the Demon Lord are slowly invading different countries.

The Cardonians are bewildered by the amount of information thrown at them. They could only process that much fantasy, but of course their country is obviously right in the middle of a fantasy world.

"So you are saying that this Empire would definitely would.come for your country and ours?" asked Lt. Col. Choro.

"Yes, enslaving would be a better option, but considering they are using those monsters and the rumors of the Demon Lord, we might end up being cooked and eaten. The Principality of Timone are probably being conquered as we speak." Princess Jahleel then said in a serious tone.

That spelled silence between the two parties.

The Cardonians knew for a fact that their modern weapons are more than enough to stop their advance party. But the thought of being cooked and eaten, send shivers to their spines.

"Can we launch a preemptive strike? They are basically sitting ducks as of now!" argued 1st Lt. Crowall argued.

"How? Even with our current forces here, we are only a thousand strong. And not belittling your country, our armed forces will probably need a week before they could act what more of the Cardonia?" asked the Senior Knight Emmane.

"Our navy and air force could deliver some punitive strikes to weaken them." Prince Kharles answered.

"Thats hundreds of kilometers away and their navy are a thousand strong. You're weapons are that powerful? I can't believe it." an Archesian official then bursts. That led other officials to murmur in distraught.

"It is, compared to our long range weapons, that is but a stone throw away." Lt. Col. Choro answered and silenced the Archesians.

"We could benefit a lot of from this actually. We can call the media to show the events live on national TV. That is of course, we need to disclose what happened here. Currently we are tied because of what people think. If we can provide evidence that are clear as day, imagine the good stuff it would cause." the Prince discussed with his officers.

Eversince the country was transported to this world. Conspiracies began to circulate among the population and this is further fuelled by the lack of information given by the goverment. This move by the Prince is trying to solve that. He thinks that the population and Cardo itself, needs to accept the truth.

He also ensured that the plan woukd go through as he would talk to the King himself. And will claim full responsibility of things go haywire.

After the meeting concluded. A messenger was then dispatched by the Archesians to report the situation to their capital. A convoy then would follow short after with Cardonian diplomats. This is the first official diplomacy mission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since the trasnportation of the whole country. This is to pave way for other diplomatic talks between the two.

The Prince later then conducted an emergency broadcast on the national TV. Military and government officisls are surprised as the Prince discloses the accounts previously guarded as top secret to the public.
