Malubha ang kanyang team. Pinaulanan ng bala ang mga ito. Iisa lang ang naiisip niyang dahilan.
Ang patahimikin ang biktima.
Nakaupo siya ngayon at sinisimsim ang kape habang mariing tinitingnan ang emails na pinadala ni Cynthia.
Iyon ay autopsy na nakuha mula sa bangkay ni Senator Fronda. Ang markang nasa dingding na ginuhit sa dugo ng senador ay walang ipinagkaiba sa markang nasa dibdib ng babae.
Bumukas ang pintuan. Pumasok doon si Cynthia. May kauntig ngiti ito sa labi at lumingon sa nas likuran niya.
"Nandito ang abogado nung babae, Major."
Tumango siya at binaba ang mug.
"Send him in." Aniya at sinara ang laptop.
Nakita niya ang babaeng nakasuot ng corporate attire at halatang pagod ang mukha dahil naririto siya imbis na mahimbing na natutulog.
"Samuela?" Tanong niya at sinalubong ang kapatid ng yumaong kaibigan.
Walang emosyon ang mukha nito imbis sa bahagyang pagtaas ng kilay nito.
"Yes. Atty. Samuela Montecillo, Major." Nilahad niya ang kamay niya. "I am the victim's family lawyer."
Tumango siya at tinanggap ang kamay ng dalaga. Pinaupo niya ito sa sofa.
"Ikaw ang sinasabing nasa speed dial niya? I'm sorry we do not even know her name." Panimula niya habang inaabot ang kape sa abogada.
"You arrested someone you don't know? I can't believe it, Major! Where's the due process we must always do?" Seryosong tanong niya.
You can't just arrest someone because she looks like a terrorist. She's now interested to see his fault. She vowed to protect her client at all cost. Kahit pa patay na ito.
"I know. But she's been planning to kill me. She just said it. And besides, there's this tattoo-"
"A stupid tattoo? We don't even know if she just threatened you because you handcuffed her to the bed."
She scanned the report he did and tightly held her coffee. Athos remained serious and calm. Samuela stopped at the picture of the tattoo.
"The deadly nightshade tattoo is widely seen at her home country, Major. My client is half Lebanese."
"I know. But we are conducting investigation. But now all the things that she said is an enough evidence. It is recorded." Athos said with ease.
"Can I see Delilah? Where is she?" Tanong niya at tumayo.
Athos nodded. "She's in the morgue. Do you know her full name and basic information? We could really use some help."
Tumango siya. Lumabas sila at naglakad sa tahimik na hallway.
"Yes. I am her lawyer for three years. I know a thing or two about her."
Tumikhim si Athos. Tanging tunog ng takong ni Samuela ang naririnig sa kahabaan ng hallway. Alas tres y media pa lang ng madaling araw.
"I heard all the soldiers are critically wounded?" Tanong ni Samuela.
"Yes. But all we can be sure is she's the target. Do you know anyone who's threatening her?" Tanong ni Athos.
"No. I am just her lawyer for her divorce. My fiance, is the real family lawyer."
"She's married?" Athos asked. If she is, maaaring may alam ang asawa niya sa markang nasa katawan ng biktima.
