Chapter 29- Romancing

Neither you nor Hux spoke as he left the office to go wash up, and you resumed your seat at your desk. Though not satisfied in the same way as Hux had been, you were satisfied with yourself. Seeing the look on his face? Hearing his voice- those half-stifled whispers of your name as you pleased him? That was something that nothing in the universe could put a price on. And you were proud of yourself.
I mean look at you! You were the General's personal weakness, and you suppose you had the right to be cocky about it. Hux loved you; your [e/c] eyes, [h/c] hair, and your body. Nobody else's. You smiled at yourself in the reflection of an office computer screen. Now all you had to do was make your time with Hux worthwhile. Now that he'd passed the initial awkwardness after Cyclic Pass, and the awkward board meeting, you wanted to do something to celebrate your attraction, make him absolutely sure that he'd made the right choice.
Because as much as you wanted to believe Hux loved you, there was still a tiny insecure part of you that wasn't quite sure. I mean, he was Armitage Hux for crying out loud! Those icy blue eyes, sharp red hair, that stone-chiseled jaw... he was the kind of man most any girl in the First Order would die for— sometimes literally. Hux was perfect. And there was no way in space you were going to let him see your secret romance as anything less.

As you started your work for the day, you couldn't help but let your mind wander as you began to construct your magnificent plan, detail for detail (Perhaps Hux's personality really was starting to rub off on you, you thought). You would dim all the illumination settings in Hux's quarters, and put on your best lingerie-- a red lace thing with satin bows and ribbons which you kept hidden in the bottom of your pyjama drawer, underneath your regulation clothes. There was a secret locked compartment in the Officer's Lounge filled with fine Endorian wine, which you knew could be procured from one of Elsie's friends for a price. You would leave your station early, sneak into Hux's room which you'd noted the passcode to, and then you would wait. Finally, when he came home after a long day of the galaxy's most stressful job, he would see you; the smartest droid coder in the First Order, and General's private assistant, sprawled gloriously across his bed with that bottle of wine, grinning. It would be too perfect to resist.

Or perhaps you were getting ahead of yourself. You turned around in your swivel chair from what you looked like you were working on to see that Hux had returned to the office. And there he was, typing something furiously on his data pad as if nothing had happened. Very professional. He looked focused, perhaps a little angry, even. Classic Hux. For a moment, you began to doubt if anything really had just happened, or if you had just imagined it. That was, until Hux noticed you staring and gave you a warm, enamored smile that sent shivers down your spine.

"[y/n]? Is everything alright?"

You found yourself blushing.

"Just fine Armi- er- General. I was just... thinking about you."

"Oh darling..."

"Even when you're sitting right there... I know it's stupid, but sometimes I worry that you're far away. And I think about you, and I miss you. So I have to turn around, just to remind myself that you're still there."

Hux swallowed hard.

"[Y/n]. I- Never knew you felt like that. Sometimes... I don't look at you because I'm afraid you wouldn't like me to. You wouldn't want to look back. You'd...disappear."

Your heart definitely stopped.

"Kriff, Hux. I... Of course I want you to."

"It's just that," Hux shifted, "Everything is always so sensitive. I need everything in The Order to go absolutely perfectly as planned and I need my mind to be 100% set on it but- Then I see you, [y/n]. And I think about feeling you... belonging with you... and then I think about... the way..certain...things...have been...and a stupid little part of me wants to throw it all away."

What in space was he so worried about?

"What 'things'? Come on, Hux. The order is in no peril because of our relationship. And I feel the same way."

"I just can't promise you that things will go the way you might have planned. This is politics, [y/n]. This is war."

You rolled over to him in your swivel chair, until your face was about an inch from his.

"Don't worry, Armitage. I'm sure everything will be just fine"

And with a soft kiss, you felt deep down that it really would be.

Oh, how wrong you were.
