I awake to a sudden gasp of air. I feel hot and sweaty. My fingers barely move to my command and I attempt to pry open my eyes but fail. I lose consciousness. The next time I awake the day has been consumed by night just as I have been consumed by sobriety.

Why is it a secret? Because no one believes me. How do I fight the cravings? Simple. I don't. Only one person believed me back then and only one person believes me now, Sapphire, my best friend.

Approaching my normal morning group of friends I shoot a warning glance toward the boy reaching for Sapphire's back pocket. Her money's sticking out again. I even brought her a wallet for that reason.

Defeated, he slipped away and I slip her money between my fingers as I sit next to her and put my arm around her. "Morning, Jake!" She exclaims excitedly.

I smiled, "Morning. Where's your wallet I bought you ?"

Sapphire frowned.

"Did you actually look for it today?"

"Unless you think a twenty dollar bill looks better in my wallet then I'll answer no."

"Huh?" She exclaimed as she looked at me and then to the hand I had placed on her shoulder.

Angrily, she grabbed the twenty and opened her backpack. "Fine! I'll use it. Gee!"

I laughed, "Just a suggestion."

Frowning, she glared. "Did he try to steal from me again?"

I nodded, "Apparently your butt is very fascinating."

Jeffery shook his head as he remarked. "Psh! The twenty's what he wanted Jake not excessive fat."

Sapphire frowned. "You're just jealous because I have a bigger butt than you do!"

Jeffery laughed, "Of course you do! Because you're fatter than I am!"

Sapphire turned away in anger. "Whatever." She mumbled.

I smiled and pulled Sapphire closer. "Don't worry about him. He's just joking."

Sapphire looked up at me. "Don't try to cheer me up."

I shrugged. "Already did and failed so I quit!" I grinned.

"Stop it with that sharp grin of yours!" She laughed. "Always trying to hide it when we all know you have bigger k-nines than we do!"

Jeffery laughed, "Yea and sharp ones at that. I'm pretty sure if you flashed those bad boys at a robber they'd run like crazy!"

I smiled big and showed my fangs clearly as I laughed.

"Run for the hills!" Org, a friend sitting across from me exclaimed.

It made me happy to know they thought it was a joke. At least I had an excuse if I were ever in denial of my vampire side.
