Alex introduced me to the people he knew as his research assistant. That is what I am. I should have been flattered by the designation, and I suppose I am to an extent. But somehow I wasn't really satisfied. I could tell that when people first saw me with him they were thinking I was something else. When I heard Alex set them straight, my heart sank a little. What is wrong with me?
