Our composition class has a mandatory field trip tonight to the Panteón de Belén (Bethlehem Cemetery). It is a historical and notoriously haunted cemetery, which irrationally requires us to tour it at night. One student is legitimately frightened, to the point of almost skipping for a lowered grade, and others are stupidly excited. I guess that's kind of why I feel the way I do about it. I could get excited about going to see a historical cemetery, but between the ghost stories we're supposed to hear and the other students' overreactions, I'm ambivalent.

But it doesn't matter, because Alex says all of his class has to go and then write about it. He claims that burial practices are a telling aspect of any culture, and that cemeteries and dead people are a particularly important aspect of Mexican culture. If that's true (and Alex should know), then I suppose there will be value in it. And who knows? Maybe it will be fun. Hopefully it won't give me nightmares. I'll let you know. I'd better get going!
