I tugged down the sleeves on my jumper, the cold air making my skin feel numb and the hairs on my arm stand up. I was currently waiting outside of the car park of my school, waiting for my boyfriend Shawn. Being the idiotic person he is, he had managed to get an detention for being late to class; and of course it had to happen on the day I was driving him home.

Usually, I wouldn't of minded to wait for his detention to be over so we could leave, but today was different. why, you ask? Because one of my best friends, Max, was coming over from California to visit for the week. And i had to pick him up from the airport. I was beyond excited to see him, since he only visits once every year.

Life was much easier when he lived here in Canada, but his father got offered a highly paid job in California, which he accepted the offer and moved away. I was saddened to hear that my best friend was moving away from me, because he was one of the only people i could trust. But then I met Shawn, and now I have someone to talk to other than Max.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when i saw the school doors open and no more than 5 students walked out from there detention, with a miserable look on there faces. One of theses students was Shawn, as he glanced around the car park in the search for me. He soon met my gaze and began to walk over to my car, re-adjusting the strap on his shoulder.

"Hey, sorry that you had to wait for me, it was Mr Johnson who gave me the detention, and you know he has no chill." He chuckled once he had gotten into the car. He placed a soft kiss on my cheek, causing my cheeks to warm instantly.

"Its fine," I said, glancing at the rose gold watch on my wrist. The time read 5:00pm, which meant i had 30 minutes to get to the airport in time to get Max. I panicked and turned the keys in the car, the engine roaring loudly. "shit."

Shawn threw his bag in the backseats and turned to me. "What's wrong?"

"I'm running late for something, so you're gonna have to come with me, I'll drop you off when we get back," I rushed, pulling out of the parking lot. Luckily, the journey to the airport wasn't too long away, probably 15 minutes.

"Okay," He replied, before adding. "So, where are we going?"

"To the airport, I need to pick up a friend."

"A friend?" he asked, a confused expression on his face.

"yeah, you don't know him," I shrugged, indicating to take a turn to the left.

"Him?" I felt Shawn slightly tense beside me. Although he had spoken calmly, the way his fists clenched told me a different story.

"Yes, him. Is there something wrong with that?" I wondered, keeping my eyes on the road. We were almost there, and happiness consumed me. I couldn't wait to see Max, and be able to see him in person and not my laptop screen over face time.

"What's his name?" He questioned rather quickly. I glanced over at Shawn in confusion, and his expression showed as if he was trying to cover something up. His left eye twitched slightly, but it was hardly noticeable. What's wrong with him? Why is he acting like this?

"Max..." I trailed off, taking my eyes off Shawn and back onto the road ahead.

"max?" The name rolled off his tongue like venom. "Do I know him? How do you even know him? Where is he from?"

"Shawn, your asking a lot of questions," I let out an airy chuckle, but felt a little aggravated. It was like being on a quiz show.

"I'm sorry," He sighed. "But i'm bound to be a little curious to who this boy is,"
