"Honey? Is it okay if you take Riley to school today? I'm not feeling good." Shawn mumbled, nuzzling his head further into the pillow on our bed.

"Sure, but please make sure you go to the doctor to get your results, okay?" I replied with concern laced in my voice. He had been feeling ill for a while now, and it's starting to get worse.

From him puking in the bathroom to not having an appetite. I was getting extremely worried. So I told him to see a doctor, which he did, and they did some tests. They informed us that the results have came through today, so hopefully he is all clear.

"Mhm, okay baby." He whispered, lifting his hand up to cover his face. He snuggled up into bed, getting more comfortable, but was soon interrupted.

"Daddy? Why are you still in bed?" Riley, our 6 year old daughter asked, poking her head in our door and walking up to Shawn in his bed.

"Daddy can't take you to school today, buttercup." Shawn said softly, watching Rileys face turn into a frown.

"Come here." He whispered, gesturing for her to go to him. Her little feet pattered over to him, and she jumped on the bed.

He lifted her up and cradled her in his arms. "I'm sorry, I promise to take you to school tomorrow."

"Can't I stay here with you today?" She asked, with hope in her eyes. She lifted her head up from Shawn's chest to look at him.

"No honey, you have to go to school." He spoke softly, playing with her hair.

Her bottom lip began to quiver, and her eyes brimmed with tears.

"Hey, hey, don't cry. I promise I will take you to McDonald's after school today. Okay?" He lifted up his pinky, as she vigorously nodded and connected her pinky with his.

Shawn was such a good dad. He always knew how to make her smile.

"Come on, let's get you to school." I smiled and lifted Riley up from the bed.

"See you later my beautiful girls." Shawn smiled weakly, and winked cheekily at us.

I had just picked up Riley from school, and she was jumping up and down, exited to see Shawn.

"Daddy!? We're home!" Riley shouted and dumped her school bag on the floor. She darted up the stairs, and raced to our room where he was.

"Hey beautiful." I heard his voice echo along the corridor, followed by a giggle from Riley.

I smiled to myself and walked over to our room, and saw Riley being held in Shawn's arms.

"Hey babe." I smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek.

"Hey." He whispered back, and added. "I need to talk to you both."

I grew confused at his saddened expression, and before I had a chance to reply i felt him grip onto my arm and bring me over to the bed, with Riley still in his arms.

We all sat down on the bed, and he placed Riley next to him. "So, I went back to the doctor today to see my results..." he trailed off, and played with his fingers.

"A-And they've found something..." he stuttered nervously. My heart rate quickened from worry, and I think Riley was just as concerned as me.

"They found out I have cancer..."

I placed my hand over my mouth in shock, tears welling up in my eyes. This can't be true, this has to be a dream.

"No! Is this some cruel joke or something?" I croaked out, tears suddenly escaping one after one.

"I wish I was joking, honey." He replied, his eyes brimming with tears.

"What does it mean, daddy?" Riley asked confused. I had completely forgotten about Riley being in the room, I guess I got distracted.

"Daddy's just ill at the minute, baby." His delicate voice cracked, and he placed her on his knee.

"Will you get better?" She mumbled, clinging onto his shirt.

He glanced up at me, and back down to her. "Hopefully, but you don't need to worry."

I squeezed my eyes shut, and took my gaze from Shawn. This has to happen to the most loveable person in the world. My poor baby is suffering and there's nothing I can do to help him.

I deeply loved Shawn, and I wish I was the one who had cancer, not him. He doesn't deserve this, not one bit. I hope they can get rid of it, because I would be heart broken if they couldn't.

"Why is mommy crying?" Riley whispered to Shawn, who had a pained look on his face.

"I'm just tired, hun." I gave her a tight smile, to let her know it was okay.

Shawn met my gaze, and mouthed an 'I love you', whilst taking ahold of my hand.

I mouthed the same back, squeezing his hand reassuringly. This is my whole life in one room, and I will do whatever it takes to make sure we stay together.

"Anyway, I believe I promised my little princess a McDonald's." Shawn smiled, trying to lighten up the mood.

Riley's face lit up and she jumped off his lap in excitement. Even on the worst moments, he still managed to make that little girl smile.

We're gonna go through one hell of a ride with this situation, but if he's still alive then that's all that matters to me.
