I sat down on the couch next to Shawn, smiling at the the fact that I can finally relax. Shawn had just moved into my house, so we had spent all day un-boxing his belongings.

We had been together for a while now, and we thought that it was finally time for us to move in together.

My body felt more relaxed and my eyes were slowly closing, as the door bell rang, causing me to jump and re-open them.

I groaned and began to sit up, but Shawn patted my thigh, stopping me from moving. "Don't worry Hun, I'll get it."

I quietly thanked him and watched him walk over to the door. I closed my eyes again, trying to make out the muffled conversation that was happening with Shawn and this mystery person.

"Uh- babe...we have a problem." I heard Shawn shout from the door. I raised my eyebrows in confusion, making my way over to Shawn.

I got ahold of the door, opening it wider to get a better view. It was Hope, a girl that I was in high school with.

But what confused me the most was the fact that she was bawling her eyes out. Out of instinct, I pulled her inside and wrapped my arms around her into a hug.

"Hope, are you okay?" I asked concerned. She shook her head, pulling away from my embrace.

"Lets go and talk in the living room." I said softly, rubbing her back. She nodded, as I lead her into the living room.

I glanced over at Shawn, his face mixed with confusion and concern.

"So, Hope. I'm not trying to be rude but what are you doing here? We weren't exactly the closest of friends back in high school." I spoke my voice still soft, as we both took a seat on the couch, and Shawn leaning against the doorframe.

Me and Hope were friends back in high school, but we never really talked. We only shared a few classes together.

"I-I need to talk to you about something. Someone. Well, my boyfriend." She struggled with her words as she was still sobbing. I nodded.

"I know that I probably shouldn't be here asking for your advice, but I need to talk about my boyfriend with someone who knows him better than anyone. Which is you." A nervous feeling erupted in my stomach, but I nodded again, allowing her to continue.

"I know that you and him used to be in a relationship back in high school. Nate?" She mumbled, playing with her fingers.

As soon as his name left her lips, I felt sick rise to my stomach. That was a name I never wanted to hear ever again. I had hoped I could've forgotten about him.

Nate was my boyfriend back in high school, in everybody's eyes they saw us as the 'power couple', but behind closed doors was a totally different story.

He was abusive. He would come to my house after school and hit me. Even if I did the smallest thing, he would take it out on me. Although, not every part of the relationship was him being abusive.

It started a few months after I found out he cheated on me, I told him we were over, but he wouldn't accept it. So he hit me.

He scared me into staying with him. And god, it worked. I was petrified of him. The worst part was he loved how much power he had over my life, so he continued to hurt me.
