     Black Tears

Taylour lay still hearing a beeping noise close to her ear. She opened her eyes and didn't know where she was or what happened. She looked around to see Sean sitting beside her bed. He jumped out of the chair and came to her side.

"What happened? Where am I?" She asked in a strained voice.

"You're at the hospital. You passed out in your office. Des came in to give you some paperwork and she said you looked at her and before she knew what to do you were on the floor. She called 911 and they called me. Seems I'm still listed as your emergency contact." Taylour reached up to touch her head which was throbbing as if she had been hit with a brick. She looked down at her clothes noticing she had been changed into the hospital gown. She groaned at her throbbing head.

"Babe just lay still."

"What about the baby? Is the baby okay?" She rubbed her stomach with a look of panic. Sean hesitated to answer. Sean pressed the button on the remote to call for a nurse

"Yes, can I help you?" The nurse said over the speaker.

"Yes my wife is awake can you call her doctor please."

"No problem he'll be just a minute." Taylour looked at Sean who still hadn't answered her question. He had this irritated look on his face. Like she had done something wrong or hurtful to him. She hadn't seen this demeanor from him in a while. So long she couldn't remember when.

"Sean is the baby okay?" He still wouldn't answer her and that made her even angrier. Before she could open her mouth to yell at him, the Doctor walked into the room. He was an older white man who had a snow-white beard and tan wrinkled skin. He walked in holding her chart.

"Hello, Mrs. Davis-"

"That's Ms. Mitchell" Sean snapped his neck in her direction with a grimace look over his face. What was she trying to say by correcting him? She was a Mrs. whether she liked it or not. He would bring that up to her another time.

"Excuse me ...Ms. Mitchell my apologies it said Davis on your chart."

"No problem. It will be corrected soon enough." Sean was now fuming not removing his eyes off of her. She knew he was looking and chose to stay focused on the doctor.

"Well, Ms. Mitchell, I'm Dr. Matthews. We have the test results back and the baby is fine. Although you had a hard fall, the baby was shaken up. You will need to rest for the next couple of days. Meaning not being on your feet. So it's important that someone be with you to take care of you," he said looking at Sean and he nodded in response.

"No problem, I'll have my mother come around more. Now, what made me pass out?" Sean looked at her and if looks could hit, then he would be abusive. He was furious.

"Well, you are malnourished. Have you been eating, Ms. Mitchell?" Taylour looked away and then back at the doctor.

"Yeah, I eat." She would eat here and there but would ignore the growls in her stomach. She had been neglecting herself and the baby. She had been stressed and didn't want to eat if she hadn't forgotten.

"Have you been taking your prenatal vitamins?" Taylour didn't answer. She could see Sean in the corner of her eye fuming. If he were a cartoon steam would be coming out his ears.

"It seems the baby lacks the nutrients needed to develop. Between that and the fact that you haven't been getting the vitamins and food needed, you could have lost this baby. I'm going to recommend that you stay the night and take the rest of the week off from work. If you like, I can write you a note."
