This longing for Heaven on earth
Lord forgive me for this longing for heaven while I’m here on Earth
Believe me when I say I love your creation
and the precious gifts you give me everyday
And I so appreciate the music, the nature and the people
who work so hard everyday to just get by,
as they pray for your help to get them through
and to give them resources they need to survive as they need to.
and there are more and more good people
joining forces in love and harmony
Here helping out humanity
so they can make life a little better for all eventually.
so I need of help I’m sure
For in truth I wish to be with you
While I am here to do what I can do.
And I remember a promise I made to serve,
how long ago I’m not sure.
I thought we could bring heaven here to Earth
And there where all those beautiful visions
and the love that lit my soul on fire with a love that still endures
with a flicker of the eternal flame that burns in silence so pure.
And I still need to be that instrument you play
Just as St. Francis once wrote of
For if your breath of life moved through me
With those tones of light so true
That spirit would lift me to be present
with the grace to guide me to you.
so I could serve you with joy and appreciate
that purpose for which I came and know I ‘m doing whatever it takes
And I thank you for the blessings given to me each day
That help me to appreciate how you work through
To show us how to be the servant you are
with that perfect example as a way to be
I know there is a greater good at work here
Though sometimes we focus on the problems we see
I know we all are working together to make this earth a better place to be.
So let me learn to love as you loved here
And teach me everyday how to be a better servant
Doing the work to help those who are in need or in despair.
And I do thank you for this instrument that you gave for me to use
And this imperfect heart of longing
Still working here for a little heaven while living on Earth here.
