“Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes.”  Oscar Wilde

But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 5:8

Atonement:  “the reconciliation of God and humankind through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ”  Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Can I tell you about my friend Max?

Who tried everything to the max

The proud owner of a shiny sharp axe

He swung and he swung and swung

But alas little work got done

Can I tell why no work got done?

When work was to be done

It was not at his hands it could be done

It was the job of Another

A job with which only He can bother

Can I tell you this Max’s identity?

He’s no other than you and me

It’s the work of Grace you see

This work he could not do

This work we cannot do

We swing and we swing and swing

Our axes we mightily swing

But it’s on the Savior we should cling

Because at the foot of the Cross there is no fee

And at the foot of the Cross we are set free

Can I tell you who’s job this job is?

Who’s job salvation is

It is simply His

He is our Savior

And there is no other

Can I tell you what our axes do?

What their blades are laid to

The blades wielded at a job we cannot do

Why they hack and they cleave and chip away at the key

At the base of Calvary’s Tree

Now I’m talking to you and me

We need to be set free

To be saved without fee

So let’s lay our axes down and look to the Crown

It’s only in Him that eternity is found
