Yesterday I wrote that satisfaction is what life is all about. On the face of it, that statement seems true. What is the point of life if its not satisfying? But dig a little deeper and its meaning seems to crumble. What if my purpose is to be persecuted for Christ? That doesn't seem like it would be satisfying. However, dig a little deeper and it begins to be truer and truer. Because of one truth. What matters most is God. He created us. He's in control. And He has a purpose for everything. With that purpose, in His gentleness, He throws in satisfaction. Do you think the apostle Peter was satisfied while being crucified upside down? Do you think the apostle Paul was satisfied as he was martyred for Christ? Yes! They probably weren't completely satisfied with their bodily predicament, but I'm confident they were satisfied with their lives and their relationship with the One who matters most. Why? Because God has the ability to grant satisfaction in the worst circumstances. Because with Him there is something that can shine a light on any situation. That thing is HOPE! Hope is His supernatural, proverbial, "light at the end of the tunnel." Hope is His source of peace. Hope is the driving force that sustains life. I heard pastor Rich Warren say this once, and I believe it. He said, "You can live 40 days without food, you can live three days without water, eight minutes without air, but you can't live a second without hope." I'm reminded of the hymn Because He Lives in which it states, "Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, because He lives, all fear is gone, because I know He holds the future, and life is worth the living, just because He lives." Life is certainly worth living because He lives. He's our hope and our salvation. He lives and we can live because of that. That's why what matters most is God. And He's why life can be about satisfaction.
