Saving Me

Chapter 13

"Hey Sis, it's time to wake up," Jess sniffled as she held her best friend's hand gently in hers. "It's been a couple of weeks now that you've been sleeping. You are driving me crazy, you know that?" She said as she wiped a tear from her cheek. "I'm just messing with you," she pushed some of Lynn's hair out of her face and sniffled again. "You take all the time you need to sleep and heal. The docs said that they had to repair the broken bones that didn't heal correctly so you will be in casts for a bit longer but the good news is that the knife didn't do any serious damage. I mean it did nick your lung but it didn't do serious damage. Your ribs and muscles and all that stuff prevented it. Plus it helped that Raven and North got to the asshole in time while Luke grabbed the knife before it could have done something really bad. You were in surgery for so long so they could fix you up as much as they could. Plus you left me a couple of times but thankfully you came back. I wouldn't know what would have happened if you left me for good. I need you here with me to torture the guys and drive them up the walls like we use to."

Jess sniffled and wiped a few tears away again. Kota, North, and Luke just sat quietly while Jess talked to her.

"How is our favorite patient doing today?" Sean asked as he came into the room.

"She's still getting her beauty sleep," Luke said softly.

"Has there been any changes?" Sean asked as he picked up her chart to start looking it over.

"There were some changes in her heartbeats earlier but nothing for awhile now," Kota said after he put his phone away. He was letting the rest know that Sean was in checking on her and would update later.

"Really?" Sean asked as he picked up her heart monitor papers.

"Yeah, it was when Jess first started talking to her," North nodded as he sat up better.

"Interesting," Sean mumbled.

"What do you mean?" Jess asked as she took the tissue from Kota and blew her nose.

"Well, it could be nothing," Sean shrugged, "but the fact that it happened when you first started talking to her could be an indication that she is responding to your voice."

"Really?" Jess asked.

"Yes but it could also be nothing," Sean said. "I don't want to get your hopes up if it is nothing."

"I understand," Jess nodded. "But I am going to hope that is means she's coming back to us."

"Have you done her exercises so her muscles don't go weak?" Sean asked and Jess shook her head.

"Not yet, I've just been talking to her," She grabbed her hand again, "I was telling her it was time to wake up but if she needed more sleep it was okay." There was a sudden increase in her heart rate before it went back to normal.

"Interesting," Sean whispered as he watched it happen. "Talk to her again Jess."

"Hey Sis, I just found out that Rob Zombie is redoing The Munsters and I have saved all the updates to show you so you have to wake up so we can go watch it when it comes out. Oh also, Bette Midler and the girls are currently filming Hocus Pocus Two so you really have to wake up so we can have a movie marathon and terrorize the guys. Well besides Luke and Gabe, they will be watching the movies with us but can you just imagine North's face when we splurge on all our snacks while watching our movies? It's almost Halloween so we need to carve pumpkins and screw with Gabe by getting our own decorations and turning the house how we want it to be. Please wake up."

Her heart machine beeped at the increase of her heart rate a couple of times before it went back to being steady. "Fascinating," Sean said as he made some notes.

Kota grabbed his phone and sent off a text. Within ten minutes the rest of the team came into the room. Sean updated them on her progress and each one of the guys tried talking to her but her heart machine remained the same. Jess tried talking to her some more but it didn't change.

"She probably just used up all her energy trying to respond to you Jess," Axel said softly.

"Yeah," Jess nodded. "I know that's what it is. She's trying to come back to us, I just know it."

"We're not leaving here tonight," Owen said. "We need a bigger room so we can stay by her side."

"Got it," Sean nodded as he left to go secure a room for all of them. Gabe and Victor left to go get overnight bags for everyone.

They spent the rest of the day hanging out and occasionally talking to her but there was no change by the time they all fell asleep.

Jess woke to something moving beside her. She sat up and yawned. She glanced down and saw Lynn looking back at her. "Lynn!"
