THE FIVE TIMES IT FELT A LOT LIKE LOVE

even if the world opposes me, it's enough if you remain by my side.
Star's pov
"I'll drop by the supermarket and get some groceries. What do you want to eat for dinner?" Logan asks
"I'm not sure. You decide, I'm fine with whatever" I say, holding the phone between my ear and shoulder as I move the mop back and forth on the kitchen floor
Since it's the weekend today, I decided to do some cleaning. Logan was supposed to help but she had to leave to take care of some work so I'm doing whatever I can by myself.
"You sure? Don't be picky later" she says and I roll my eyes
"Said the picky eater"
"I'm not a picky eater"
"Sure sure, whatever you say" I chuckle, knowing she's about to start whining
"You're mean" she says and I'm about to say something before I hear the doorbell
"There's someone at the door. You should get back to work okay? See you in the evening" I say
"Wait, who's at the door?"
"No idea. I'll go check" I say, leaving the towel on the island and heading out of the kitchen to the door. I press the button on the small screen and frown when I don't recognize the woman I see on the screen
"Who is it?" Logan asks and I shrug
"It's someone I don't know. I'll just check, wait" I say before pressing the second button so I can speak to the person outside
"Hi, sorry who is it?" I ask and I hear a scoff
"I didn't realize I'd need an introduction in my daughter's house" I hear back and nearly choke on oxygen itself
"I think it's your mum" I say, trying not to freak out as I unlock the door
"What the fuck, I'm coming" it's all Logan says before she hangs up and I'm standing face to face with her mother
Fuck.
"Are you going to invite me in or should I just sit out here?" She says and her look and tone are so condescending that I just want to die
"I'm so sorry, please come in" I say, making way for her to come in and she does, her eyes moving around the place
Fuck, Logan please do some flash shit and get here right now!
"Um... would you be like anything to drink?" I ask once she sits and I almost melt down to the floor when instead of replying, her eyes sweep down my frame
"Starriett Kingsley right?" She asks, meeting my eyes
"Yes, um...I'm...I'm Starriett Kingsley" I say in reply, willing myself to not fidget on my feet
"It's been how long? 5 months since you've with Logan?" She asks although she says the answer herself
"Yes Mrs Donahue"
"Ferguson, it's Mrs Ferguson" she says "My late husband was Donahue" she says and I hope it's not cause I looked confused for a second
"Sorry about..."
"He was a useless man, not worth being sorry for" she cuts me off and I swallow down the rest of my words and remain in silence, not sure what to say after such cruel words are uttered out loud but I don't have to say anything because she speaks again
"Anyways I did not come to exchange pleasantries..." She starts and I scoff inwardly
Exchanging pleasantries? Is that what we've been doing?
"I came to see you specifically because talking to Logan is pointless" she says and I'm once again reminded of my prayer for Logan to suddenly appear and save me "You know why you're here right? We don't usually pick up people from the street but my husband and I thought you would be useful"
Pick people up from the street? I'm sorry, was I picked up from the street?
"I don't understand" I say
"I don't expect you to" she says and looks at me like she truly doesn't expect me to comprehend words like she's spoken "All you need to do is stay here quietly till the launching party we'll be throwing soon and you'd been doing an excellent job. However, recently, you've started overstepping your bounds and I don't know what nonsense acts you've played in front of Logan but I hope you'll remember your place"
"I'm sorry what?"
"You're sleeping with my daughter are you not?" She asks looking at me like I'm some prostitute by the side of the road
"Mrs Ferguson..."
"I'm not here to listen to you defend yourself Starriett, I'm simply here to remind you of your place. Logan's immature and she's a little promiscuous so she doesn't know whose legs to not get in between but I expect better from you. Go ahead and have your fun, make some money off her..."
"Excuse me? Make some money off her? What...I'm not..."
"Please, don't act like you're any better from the rest of the toys she fools with. You all are the same, digging for gold" she says and if I wasn't so shocked by her words, I'd focus on how hurtful they are
Jesus Christ, what kind of fucked up telenovela moment is this?
"I'm not trying to take your daughter's money..."
"Of course, I don't expect you to admit it but I know people of your class. I hear there's some sort of attraction she has towards you but as I said Logan's immature and stubborn and she doesn't know what she needs like I do"
"What she needs?" I ask cause I find it so ridiculous that she'd say that. I hope my tone doesn't express it though, I'd hate to be rude to her.
Of all people to say she understands what Logan needs when she's barely been there for her.
"Yes Starriett, what she needs. I am certain even you know that you do not belong beside her so it's best you don't do anything unnecessary" she says and I'm honestly waiting for her to offer me a couple millions so I leave her daughter alone.
Seeing as we have suddenly been transported into some dramatic series.
"Right, um...I honestly don't understand what you mean about the streets and the launch party and all that but, my feelings on the other hand, I understand them clearly and..."
"Your feelings are worth nothing more than a place in the trash" she cuts in and I can't even say anything as the door opens and Logan comes in
"What the fuck are you doing here?" She asks her mother straight away, walking towards where we're stood
"I've done my business" she says getting up before turning to me "Keep in mind what I said" she says and then she's out the door, shutting it behind her
I turn to Logan and she's literally radiating so much anger, I'm surprised she's not fuming
"Calm down" I say, leading her to the couch and making her sit. Her face falls into her palms the moment she does "I'll get you some water" I say, before going to the kitchen and pouring some water into a cup
"Here, drink some" I say, sitting beside her and she doesn't answer "Logan, don't be upset. I'm okay, really" I say dropping the glass on the table so I can rub her arm
I don't know if it's better or worse, as she sniffs quietly, obviously crying now
"Logan..." I mumble, coming to crouch in front of her "What's going on?" I ask, prying her hands away from her face and I wish she'd struggled with me cause my heart breaks at the sight of tears in her eyes
Is this the legendary being so angry, it brings tears to your eyes?
"What did she say to you?" She asks
"Nothing you should be crying about Logan, I'm fine and we're fine" I say, wiping her face clean of fallen tears "Okay?"
"I just..."
"What is it Logan? I know you're upset she came here but it's okay" I say, pressing a kiss to the bridge of her nose "We'll figure whatever it is out together"
"I'm scared" she says, her eyes watering over again
"Why?"
"Cause I'm happy" she says and I'm a little confused
"You're scared cause you're happy? Isn't that good? That you're happy?" I ask
"Yeah. It's good and I'm really happy cause you make me happy. You are the one person I don't ever want to lose so it feels like I'm going to. Because I hope so hard that I don't have to be without you, I'm scared I will lose you because the universe knows just how much I need you with me and it hates me" she says tears dropping down her eyes "I'm so scared that I'm going to lose everything"
"You're not going to lose everything Logan"
"If you're not there, then I have nothing. If you go, if I can't have you anymore then I'd have lost all that matters to me and I'm really scared cause I'm so happy these days and maybe I don't deserve that but I really don't want to not have you" she says and if she wasn't so heartbroken, I coo at the sweet words
"I don't want to lose you either Logan" I say moving closer to her "Ever. So for as long as you want me, you'll always have me." I say definitively as I kneel up straight and bring her into a hug
"I told you, I don't want any misunderstandings between us so I'm not going to jump to conclusions when it comes to us. If there's anything, we're going to talk about it properly and understand one another. Do you understand?" I ask and she nods into my shoulder
"No one, not even your parents, can cause a fight between us and I'm definitely not going to leave cause of them. I'll listen to you only and wait for you to tell me the truth, I'm not just going to take other people's words for it anymore, we don't do that right?" I ask and she nods again
"Good. So don't be so scared, I want to he together for as long as possible" I say, pressing a kiss to her hair "Would you like that?" I ask and she nods yet again, her arms wrapping around me
"My tough, cute baby" I coo, hugging her tighter, not being able to help the smile on my lips "I'm not going anywhere"
"Okay" she says and I kiss her head again
"Okay"
"Star?" I hear her call quietly, her voice hoarse from crying
"Yes baby?"
"Thank you" she says "for liking me" she completes and my heart melts cause how can a human be this adorable
"Thank you for letting me like you"
"Hm, I really, really, really like you" she says
"I know. I really, really, really like you too" I say and she nods
"I know" there's a smile on her lips.
