Mr. Schue entered the choir room in a rush. "All right, let's, uh, let's gather around. Sorry I'm late, guys. I was with Principal Figgins. Bad news, guys. Puckerman's in juvie," Mr. Schue frowned. "It really was just a matter of time," Tina said flippantly. "What did he do?" Quinn asked seeming in shock. "He drove his mom's Volvo through the front of a convenience store and drove off with the ATM," Mr. Schue said as some of the members of the Glee Club laughed. "And when is he getting out?" Rachel asked. "Unknown," Mr. Schue said shaking his head. "He might be the dumbest person on this planet, and that's coming from me," Brittany giggled. "Guys! Let's have some sympathy," Mr. Schue corrected them. "For a guy who put his needs before the team's? We need his voice and his bad-boy stage presence," Finn frowned. "We can't look at this as, as a crisis. It's an opportunity," Mr. Schue said. "For what? Further embarrassment and humiliation?" Quinn asked mockingly. "For welcoming our new member... Sam Evans!" Mr. Schue said as Sam entered the choir room much to the surprise of everyone, especially Finn who had wanted him to audition before this.

"Hey, everybody. I'm Sam. ... Sam, I am. ... And I don't like green eggs and ham," Sam said as he shook Mr. Schue's hand. "Oh, wow. He has no game," Santana said coolly. "Okay! This is gonna be great. You're not going to regret joining, Sam," Finn grinned as he got up. "Oh, good," Sam said. "Sam, you sit right here," Finn said as he offered Sam a seat next to him which Sam took.

"All right! Question for the group. What's a duet?" Mr. Schue asked as Rachel's hand shot up. "A blanket," Brittany said. "A duet is when two voices join to become one. Great duets are like a great marriage. The singers complement each other, push each other to be better. Now, some people may think..." Mr. Schue began explaining about duets when Kurt leaned over to whisper to Mercedes "Pssst! He's on team gay. No straight boy dyes his hair to look like Linda Evangelista circa 1993," Kurt whispered. "You're crazy, circa 2010," Mercedes whispered back.

"And that is what duets are all about. So, this week I want you to pair up and sing a duet. And, since you guys all seemed to love our little "Defying Gravity" diva-off, I'm making this a competition," Mr. Schue said. "What's the winner get?" Mike asked. "Dinner for two, on me... at Breadstix," Mr. Schue said as the Glee Club had a collective gasp, they couldn't have been more thrilled that it would be a dinner at Breadstix. "Breadstix, yes!" Tina grinned as the Glee Club chattered excitedly. "I have to win," Santana said. "I know," Brittany agreed. "Who you gonna sing with, Kurt?" Mercedes asked Kurt as Kurt looked at Sam hoping that he had found his duet partner.

Cut to Sam at his locker as Kurt approaches him. "Hi. I'm Kurt Hummel," Kurt said introducing himself to Sam. "Hey," Sam smiled as he shook Kurt's hand. "I just wanted to personally welcome you to the glee club," Kurt said. "Thanks," Sam said. "Just tell me," Kurt said as Sam gave him a confused look. "Look... maybe at your old school, you could get away with the whole "I just stayed in the sun all summer" excuse, but I have three gifts: my voice, my ability to spot trends in men's fashion, and my ability to know when it comes from a bottle," Kurt said. "I don't dye my hair, dude," Sam said shaking his head. "Yes, you do. But it's just between friends. That's not natural," Kurt said. "I'm gonna... go... 'cause you're kinda freaking me out," Sam said awkwardly as he turned to leave. "Wait, wait. Maybe my instincts were a little off. Let me make it up to you. Team up with me for the duet competition. Listen, unless you team up with Rachel, I am your best bet at winning," Kurt said. "Aren't duets supposed to be between, like, a girl and a guy?" Sam asked confused. "Well, Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor would protest. ... "Make 'Em Laugh?"," Kurt said as Sam again gave him a confused look. "Sorry," Sam said shaking his head. "'Singin' in the Rain.' 1952. Nothing?" Kurt asked as Sam still looked at him dumbfounded as Kurt muttered "Okay, maybe you are straight." "What?" Sam said confused. "Nothing," Kurt said quickly "Listen, rent it. And then look up the menu for Breadstix online, and call me, because we are gonna win this." Kurt then walked off to head to class, feeling good about his partnership with Sam coming through.

Cut to Brittany's bedroom where Brittany and Santana are lying down on her bed as Santana is kissing Brittany. "I love your sweet lady kisses," Brittany smiled. "Mmm-hmm. It's a nice break from all that scissoring," Santana said as Brittany agreed. "We should do a duet together. We should sing Melissa Etheridge's 'Come To My Window'," Brittany grinned as Santana pulled away. "First of all? There's a lot of talking going on, and I wants to get my mack on," Santana said as she then went back to kissing Brittany. "Well... I don't know, I just... I think we just..." Brittany began to say as Santana pulled away completely and sat on the edge of Brittany's bed. "Okay, second of all? I'm not making out with you because I'm in love with you and want to sing about making lady babies. I'm only here because Puck's been in the slammer for about 12 hours now, and I'm like a lizard. I need something warm beneath me or I can't digest my food," Santana said coolly as she put her hair back up in a ponytail. "But who are you going to sing a duet with?" Brittany asked as Santana smirked.

Cut to Santana talking to Mercedes in the hallway. "Why would I want to do a duet with you? We can't stand each other," Mercedes said confused as she approached her locker. "Look, Weezy, I realize I've tried to punch you a couple times, and sometimes when you're not looking, I put weird things in your food. But it's a new year, and you and I are the best singers at this school," Santana said. "I don't get what the big deal is, it's just a free trip to Breadstix," Mercedes shrugged. "Um, I'm sorry, have you been to Breadstix? They are legally forbidden to stop bringing you breadsticks. One time I brought a wheelbarrow, and when the manager tried to stop me from filling it up, I called the corporate office and got her fired," Santana said defensively. Mercedes sighed. "Well, I guess our voices do sorta go together," Mercedes said. "Mmm-hmm, that's right, girl! So if we do a duet together, we will be the undisputed top bitches at this school," Santana smirked as she walked off. Mercedes seemed to agree with Santana's argument as she also smiled as she closed her locker.

Cut to Finn and Kurt in line in the lunchroom. "You can't do this to him," Finn fumed. "You're over-reacting," Kurt said. "If he sings with you, you're painting a bull's-eye on his back," Finn said. "Once again, your closeted homophobia seeps to the surface like the contents of a cracked cesspool," Kurt said rolling his eyes. "Don't give me that. Look, I know I shouldn't have used that word in your basement, but it's not like you were innocent. I really like you, Kurt. But the fact of the matter is, the way you were all over me last year? If I did that to a girl, she'd take out a restraining order," Finn said. "You have issues with me being gay, I get it," Kurt said flippantly. "No, actually, I don't. I have issues with the fact that you don't understand that no means no," Finn protested. "I just want to sing with him," Kurt said. "Then you don't give a damn about any of us. If he sings with you, I guarantee within a week he'll take so much crap, he'll have to quit glee club," Finn said as Kurt thought about it "Your call, dude," Finn then walked off to the choir room where he and Rachel were rehearsing their duet of 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart'.

"We're totally going to win this thing," Finn grinned. "I know," Rachel said solemnly. "Wha- don't be sad. I mean, Breadstix has these vegan meatballs, they're... they're okay," Finn offered as Rachel took a seat. "I'm not really a nice person. I'm selfish. The fact is, I'm only really generous if there's something in it for me," Rachel said honestly. "Yeah, but I still like you," Finn said. "But you, you're so... kind, and open. Well, it's made me want to be a better person. We have to throw the competition," Rachel said. "But I love Breadstix," Finn frowned. "No, if we wanna win at Nationals, then Sam has to win this contest. Okay? He has to feel like he belongs and, and the team has to believe in him," Rachel said as Finn was impressed. "Wow, Rachel, I've never seen you like this. I'm kind of impressed," Finn smiled. "Well, like I said... you inspired me," Rachel said as she and Finn kissed. "But technically you're doing this because it'll help us win Nationals, which means there's something in it for you, so it doesn't really count as you doing something nice," Finn said. "Okay, so I'm just gonna ignore what you just said. Repeat what I said before: we just have to find a way for me to lose a singing competition so that the new kid sticks around," Rachel said. "Right," Finn said as he and Rachel decided to brainstorm a way that they could lose the competition.

Cut to Finn and Sam in the locker room as Sam heads to his locker. "I don't see the big deal. He emailed me, like, 60 MP3s of him singing, and I thought it was Faith Hill. The kid's good," Sam said. "Look, this isn't about how good Kurt is. Being in glee club is like... it's like walking down the double yellow lines of a highway. If you get just a little off course, you're gonna get crushed," Finn said. Sam shook his head. "I get that me singing with Kurt isn't exactly going to make me Mr. Popularity but I gave him my word and that means something to me," Sam said honestly as Finn sighed. "It's your funeral," Finn said realizing his warnings were falling on deaf ears.

Sam exited the locker room only to be slushied in the face by Azimio and Karofsky "Boom!" Karofsky smirked "Welcome to glee club, lady lips!" Azimio chuckled as he and Karofsky high-fived each other as they walked off. Quinn, who just saw what happened to Sam approaches him to help him get cleaned off.

Quinn and Sam are in the restroom as Quinn is cleaning Sam off with a towel. "The blueberry flavor is the worst, especially if it gets down your pants. I looked like a creature out of "Avatar" down there when I got slushied," Quinn said wiping Sam with her towel. "I saw "Avatar," like, six times," Sam smiled at Quinn. "Oh," she paused as she handed him the towel "Anyway, you'll get used to it." "You're the head cheerleader, why do you even bother? I mean, you don't need glee club," Sam asked Quinn seriously. "I like to sing," Quinn said as she helped him clean off "and the fact is, those guys were pretty cool to me last year when I wasn't on top. What's the point of being popular when you can't do what you want?" "Lor menari," He said to Quinn as she looked confused "It means you have pretty eyes. It's Na'vi... the "Avatar" language. Lor menari." Quinn couldn't help but smile at him, he was very charming."Anyway...I guess I'll see you at Glee Club practice," Quinn said as she walked out of the restroom. Sam watched Quinn leave falling in more in love with her now that he had actually spoken to her.

Cut to Tina and Mike in the library discussing duets. "I don't want to do it," Mike said. "We're duet partners! You have to sing," Tina shot back. "I don't even know if I can sing. Everyone knows I'm here to do one thing: dance. You sing and I'll dance around you; you'll be fine," Mike whispered. "No, no. We're singing together. We are gonna win that dinner at Breadstix, and then we can finally have a normal night out," Tina fought back. "Normal? What do you mean? We went out last night," Mike asked confused. "For Dim Sum. With your mom. All we ever do is get Dim Sum with your mom!" Tina complained. "Here we go," Mike said.

Cut to the school hallway where Brittany approaches Artie. "Hi," Brittany smiled as Artie seemed surprised that she approached him "So, I just want you to know, I'm really into you." "Okay. Sorry, I'm... just a little confused. You've never even made eye contact with me," Artie said. "I know. For a while I thought you were a robot," Brittany said honestly as Artie looked at her blankly.

Cut back to the library where Mike and Tina are continuing to argue. "I'm not saying that steamed pork knuckles aren't delicious. I'm just saying that at Breadstix they have bottomless salad bowls. They refill your salad until you leave or pass out," Tina argued. "You can get salad at Dim Sum. My mom got salad last night," Mike said shaking his head. "There were chicken feet in it. It was a chicken feet salad. All I want is a normal salad that doesn't have chicken feet in it," Tina fought back.

Cut back to the school hallway where Artie is looking at Brittany, confused. "So, let me get this straight. You... want to be my girlfriend? Because you... like the idea of... wheeling me around?" Artie said confused. "I just really want to get you in a stroller," Brittany said as Artie smiled back at her.

Cut back to the library where Mike and Tina are still fighting. "You're not listening to me," Mike fought back. "You don't care about my needs," Tina said as she stormed off. "Shh," the librarian said as Tina whipped around frowning. "We're fighting a lot," she said solemnly. "We should go to Asian couples therapy," Mike stated matter of factly. "Why does the couples therapy have to be Asian?" Tina said as she walked off.

Cut back to the hallway where Brittany is seated on Artie's lap as he wheels them to class. "So, I get to tell everybody that we're dating?" Artie asked. "Yes. And I get a duet partner," Brittany said as she shot Santana a look. Santana looked at Brittany and Artie confused, what was Brittany doing? Brittany whipped around as she pointed to her boobs and shook her finger at Santana, indicating she wasn't going to let her back to being with her. Santana frowned a bit, had she really hurt Brittany that badly?

Cut to the Hummel's living room where Burt is set up on the couch and Kurt is bring him a tray of food. "First course is served. Heart-healthy vegan carrot soup with whole grain croutons, and you'd better eat all of it. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find saffron in this town?" Kurt complained as he put the tray on the table. "All right, let me eat this at the table. You could make a plaster cast of my ass with the cushions from this couch," Burt said as he began to get up. "Absolutely not. I am in charge of your care from now on. You had a serious arrhythmia, Dad. The doctors say you need to rest until your stress test," Kurt frowned. "You're my stress test. Guess this means I can't get salt?" Burt said as Kurt sighed "Chin up," Kurt said as he tucked a napkin into the collar of Burt's shirt. "What's up? How's school?" Burt asked. "It's fine, I guess. There's this new kid Sam in glee club. He and I are singing a duet together," Kurt said. "Is that a problem?" Burt asked as Kurt sighed. "Finn practically begged me not to. He said it'd ruin Sam's reputation," Kurt complained. "Well, this kid Sam, uh... you know, does he play for your team?" Burt asked. "Undetermined," Kurt said honestly. "Oh. Maybe Finn has a point," Burt said. "You're siding with him? After what he called me in our basement?" Kurt complained. "I was talking to Carole, and you weren't totally honest with me. She told me that you had a crush on Finn and you weren't afraid to show it. Is this true?" Burt asked. "So a gay guy can't be friendly to a straight guy without it being predatory?" Kurt complained as he got up. "You got to understand that most guys don't know how to deal with unwanted advances," Burt explained honestly. "So you're saying I shouldn't sing with this Sam guy because it might upset a couple homophobes? I thought you said no one pushes the Hummels around," Kurt complained as Burt sighed. "No one does. I'm, I'm not saying that. I'm, I'm saying that maybe it's you who's pushing this kid Sam around, trying to take advantage of him because you're interested in him," Burt said honestly. "Dad, you have no idea what it's like. I am the only openly gay kid at school, in this town. I mean, why can't I walk hand in hand down the hall with a person that I like? Why can't I slow-dance at my prom?" Kurt said emotionally as tears filled his eyes. "Come here," Burt said calling Kurt over as Kurt took a seat next to him "You think I don't want those things for you? I do. You know, until you find somebody as open and as brave as you... you're just going to have to get used to going it alone." Kurt then laid his head on his father's shoulder, he knew his dad had a point, as hard as it may be he was going to have to get used to going it alone until he found someone who was as open as he was.

Cut to the choir room as Sam enters walking up to Quinn. "Is this seat taken?" Sam asked Quinn. "No," she smiled a bit as he sat next to her. Santana and Mercedes then started off the duets competition singing 'River Deep, Mountain High'.

The Glee Club cheered and clapped for Santana and Mercedes, all but Brittany who had looked bored the entire performance. "Whoo! Ladies, nice work! What an incredible song," Mr. Schue exclaimed. "And just so you know, I've already bought custom bibs for me and Mercedes here. You know why? 'Cause we's be going..." Santana smirked. "To Breadstix!" Santana and Mercedes said as they high fived. Mr. Schue laughed "You hear that, guys? You have your work cut out for you," Mr. Schue said as the Glee Club looked at each other, they definitely did have their work cut out for them.

Cut to the boys locker room where Sam is showering, Kurt enters. Kurt cleared his throat as Sam looked up. "Don't worry, I'm not going to go all "Shawshank" on you," Kurt said. "This is kind of weird. Guys usually don't... talk to each other in here," Sam said awkwardly. "Well, this can't wait. I'm setting you free. You can do your duet with someone else in glee. Someone that the world deems more appropriate," Kurt said honestly. "Did I do something to offend you?" Sam asked concerned. "No, no, I... It's not you, it's me. You've been honorable, actually, and I wish you the best, but I've realized that I need to sing with someone that matches my passion and talent level," Kurt said honestly. "Who's that?" Sam asked as Kurt didn't answer but changed the subject. "You know, they make special shampoo for color-treated hair," Kurt offered as he left. "I don't dye my hair," Sam called after him. "Uh-huh!" Kurt said as he exited the locker room as Sam shook his head.

Cut to Rachel's room, Finn is sitting on the bed while Rachel is pacing around. "This is a disaster," Rachel complained. "Could you stop pacing? It's stressing me out," Finn said worriedly. "It's just, being the "it couple" is so much harder than I thought. I am so stumped at how to lose this thing," Rachel complained. "Wait, I got it," Finn grinned "You remember we saw "Grease" and it was good, and then we saw "Grease 2," and I fell asleep, but you said the difference was that the songs..." "Were bad," Finn and Rachel said at the same time. "Yeah! If we want to lose, we have to do a song that's bad," Rachel said as Finn smiled. "Finn, you did it! You just saved us," Rachel grinned as she hugged Finn. Finn hugged her back smiling, they had the perfect plan now to lose the duets competition, the only thing now was to figure out what song they should sing.

The next day in the choir room Tina approaches Artie. "Artie?" Tina asked. "Mmm-hmm?" Artie said. "Can we talk?" Tina asked. "Yeah," Artie said. "I want us to be duet partners," Tina said as Artie turned around to look at her. "Really?" Artie said surprised. "We sing really well together. I just thought if we won, we could share a nice, free dinner together... as friends. We haven't really talked," Tina said honestly. "Well, Tina, as rich as I find it that you've come crawling back, I'll have you know that not only do I have a duet partner, but that our working relationship has blossomed into romance," Artie said as Brittany waves to Artie and Artie waves back. "If you'll excuse me..." Artie said as he wheeled to Brittany leaving Tina stunned as she took her seat.

"Okay, guys, so... who is up first today?" Mr. Schue asked as Kurt raised his hand. "Mr. Schue, if I may?" Kurt said. "You may," Mr. Schue said as Kurt got up in front of the class. "As many of you know, I had a duet partner, but due to sensitivities I'd rather not get into at the moment, I have dissolved the partnership," Kurt said honestly. "Okay, so who are you going to sing a duet with?" Mr. Schue asked. "Only the most talented member of the glee club... myself," Kurt smiled as Mr. Schue and the Glee Club looked surprised. "When you're different, when you're special, sometimes you have to get used to being alone. I've asked a few members of the glee club as well as some Cheerios to help me out," Kurt said honestly. "How can you do a duet by yourself? That's like vocal masturbation or something," Santana smirked. "I will be doing a number from the seminal classic movie "Victor/Victoria." It's a show about embracing both the male and the female sides. Watch and learn, Santana," Kurt said as he then turned to Brad "Hit it!"

The New Directions headed to the auditorium to watch Kurt's performance. Brittany and Mike backed him up as dancers during the performance. Everyone else watched impressed by Kurt's performance, Sam in particular was blown away. As Kurt finished his performance everyone cheered loudly. Kurt stood onstage feeling as though he did what he needed to. The bell then rang as the members of the Glee Club began to head out to their next class, Sam however walked over to Quinn he tapped her on the shoulder as Quinn turned around. "Hey can you meet me in the Astronomy classroom during free period?" he asked. "Sure," Quinn smiled "What about?" "I want to talk to you about duets," Sam said. "Okay," Quinn smiled as she got up "See you at free period."

Cut to Sam and Quinn entering the astronomy classroom. "I love astronomy. Something about all that space makes my problems seem kind of small," Sam grinned as he pointed to a planet "That one's Venus, planet of love." "It's actually Mars, planet of war," Quinn corrected him. "Which one are we on?" Sam asked. "Earth," Quinn said quickly "So why don't you come back to it and talk to me about duets? Tell me why I should be singing with you."

"Okay. Well, I want to start off with the choreography," Sam said as he strapped the guitar on "Singing will be easy, so I'll start playing." Sam began to strip his guitar "All right, now get behind me," he said. Quinn was frozen. She didn't know what to do. "Get behind me," he said assuring Quinn as she cautiously got behind him. "Good. Now grab my hips," Sam joked as Quinn laughed "And start swaying. And now, here's the cool part. Give me your hand," he said as she handed him her hand. "Do you know how to play?" he asked. "No," Quinn shook her head. "All right, it's easy," Sam said as he helped Quinn get her fingers into the position "Just put that finger there. Just like that," Sam grinned as he began to strum again "Now do it fast, back and forth. There you go," Sam said Quinn smiled a bit as they played.

Quinn couldn't help but get lost in Sam's eyes. She had finally felt a connection with someone for the first time in a long time and it felt nice. Sam then locked eyes with Quinn as he leaned in for a kiss, but that was too much too soon for Quinn.

"No. No, I can't do this," Quinn shook her head as she began to walk off "This year is about me. And don't say that I'm selfish, because you have no idea how much I have given up," she said emotionally. "I wasn't... I wasn't gonna..." Sam began. "I've been down this path before. I know this feeling," Quinn said before getting defensive "Like I need you. Duets don't work for me, and I don't need you. What I need is to find a way to keep Santana off my heels. What I need is to find a way to torture Rachel. And I need to start learning to ignore people," Quinn said as she gathered her things upset. "And I'm sorry, I shouldn't... I shouldn't have tried that," Sam frowned. "I'm sorry. I made a mistake, and, um... I don't want to sing with you," Quinn said emotionally as she left Sam in the astronomy room, dumbfounded by what had just happened between him and Quinn.

The next day in Glee Club Mike and Tina were at the front of the choir room as Mike looks nervously at Tina. "I don't think I can do this," Mike said nervously. "It's the perfect song for this very situation," Tina offered. "Whenever you're ready, guys," Mr. Schue smiled. "Yeah, hurry up. I needs to get myself to Breadstix," Santana said sassily. "Don't count on it. ... I'm mad at you, but you're still so hot," Brittany said to Santana who looked bewildered by the fact that Brittany had said this out loud. "Trust me, you're gonna be great," Tina grinned as she held Mike's hand. Mike smiled as well as he and Tina began to perform their duet of 'Sing!' from A Chorus Line.

The Glee Club all cheered except for Santana who looked annoyed throughout the whole performance. "Now that is a duet! Thank you, Tina, for introducing us to the amazing voice of Mike Chang," Mr. Schue exclaimed as everyone clapped.

Later that afternoon in the locker room Sam was punching a punching bag as Finn stormed over to him. "You tried to kiss her?! Major glee party foul, dude," Finn said shaking his head. "Look, I know I shouldn't have. She was just sending me these vibes. And those eyes..." Sam said as the clip then cut to Quinn in the ladies room fixing her makeup as Rachel walked in.

"Hey, Quinn, can we talk?" Rachel asked. "What do you want to talk about?" Quinn said continuing to fix her makeup. "About Sam. I heard that you backed out of doing the duet with him?" Rachel said. As the clip changed back to Sam and Finn in the locker room once again. "Maybe it's for the best she backed out. I mean, if that Puckerman kid ever gets out of jail, he's gonna beat my ass. I'm sure you still have feelings for her, too," Sam frowned. "No, no. No way. I'm with Rachel now," Finn said shaking his head "I mean, she's a lot shorter than Quinn and she talks a lot, but I'm in love with her." Finn then sighed "Look, this isn't about dating, dude. This is about you singing with Quinn to raise your musical rep in the group," Finn said as once again we join Quinn and Rachel in the ladies room.

"Look, I understand that your reputation is important to you, but wouldn't you want to do whatever it takes to be on top of the proverbial pyramid in every aspect of your life?" Rachel asked Quinn. "Singing with Sam won't change that," Quinn said ignoring Rachel as she continued to fix herself up. "Oh, but winning the competition will," Rachel said as Quinn turned to leave "And partnering with Sam is really your only shot at it." Quinn turned around. Why was Rachel so adamant about her singing with Sam anyway? "What's your angle?" Quinn asked as she paused by the door. "Angle?" Rachel asked confused. "What's your angle? Me winning means you losing, and you'll do whatever it takes to make sure that doesn't happen, so what is in it for you?" Quinn asked her eyes piercing through Rachel. "Look, I agree. Okay, you're probably not gonna beat Finn and I, but I just thought that, as the team captain, it would be good for the team to have some healthy competition for second place," Rachel said as Quinn seemed to consider what Rachel had to say.

Cut back to Sam and Finn in the locker room. "Look, I'm not saying you're gonna win, but I'm just saying that, you know, even coming in second would go a long way with the rest of the team," Finn said as Sam also seemed to consider what Finn was saying. He knew he had to talk to Quinn but would she be willing to take him back as a duet partner, that was the question.

Sam walked up to Quinn as they were heading to class "Hey. Listen, I was totally out of line with you. I promise it won't happen again, though you might have to wear sunglasses whenever we're together," Sam said as they walked together. "Good. Because we're gonna have to spend a lot of time together practicing if we're gonna win that dinner at Breadstix," Quinn said as she looked Sam in the eyes before heading off. Sam beamed as he watched her leave meanwhile Finn and Rachel were watching what happened. It worked. Their plan was truly going to work. Quinn and Sam would sing together now the only thing that stood in the way of Sam and Quinn winning was how Finn and Rachel did in the competition.

Cut to Brittany's room as she and Artie were working on their duet. "Ohhh Yeah. Just like that," Artie said as Brittany tried to copy him but was off key. "Tina used to make runs look so easy, but... I guess they aren't for everybody," Artie sighed. "Wait," Brittany said as she then sang the run off key once again "Nailed it." "I'm sorry, I can't do this. I just can't. I'm sorry," Artie frowned. "Uh, why... why can't you do this?" Brittany asked. "I thought I was over somebody, but I... I still think I have feelings for them," Artie sighed. "The Clintons?" Brittany asked. "Tina. I'm sorry," Artie said as he headed for the door. "Wait, don't leave," Brittany frowned as Artie turned around. "You want to get over Tina, right?" She asked as he nodded "Let me help you," she whispered as she lifted him out of his wheelchair and carried him to her bed. "What are you... what are you doing?" Artie said concerned as Brittany straddled him "Hold up. Am I about to lose my virginity?" "Before our duet, we're gonna do it," Brittany murmured as she began to make out with Artie.

The next day Finn and Rachel were up with their duet of 'Love Will Turn Back the Hands of Time' from Grease 2.

"No more midnight rides with you. No more secret rendezvous. I'm gonna miss all the things we'll never do. I just can't believe you left me here alone. How in this world can I make it on my own?" Rachel sang. "Remember I love you, I won't be far away. Baby, close your eyes and think of yesterday and we'll be there together. Love will turn back the hands of time. Whoa oh turn back. Whoa oh turn back the hands of time," Finn sang. "Whoa oh baby don't you know it's hard to let you go," Rachel sang. "Save all your dreams and keep me in your heart," Finn sang. "It hurts to say goodbye no matter how I try," Rachel sang. "Love will survive even though we have to part," Finn sang as the members of the New Directions looked at each other confused. Why would Finn and Rachel choose a song that was this....awful. "Remember I love you, you won't be far away," Finn sang. "I just close my eyes, and bring back yesterday," Rachel sang. "And we'll be there together. Love will turn back the hands of time. Whoa oh turn back. Whoa oh turn back the hands of time. Whoa oh turn back. Whoa oh turn back the hands of time. We'll turn back," Finn and Rachel harmonized as they finished the song leaving everyone confused.

There were a few polite claps from Mike, Tina, and Sam but everyone else sat there. "That was...awful," Mercedes said shaking her head. "Yeah I was really expecting more from you guys. Good for me and Mercedes here," Santana smirked. "Guys....that was a really misguided song choice," Mr. Schuester said surprised. "WHAT!" Rachel said pretending to be outraged. "Are you serious? I'm," Finn frowned. "Shocked." Rachel said. "Shocked," Finn agreed. "We're... we're shocked. I... I really hope that this doesn't cost us the competition," Rachel said. "Yeah, uh..." Finn said awkwardly. "Hey. Let's sit down. Come," Rachel said as she grabbed Finn's hand and took him to their seats.

"Well, getting back on track, who's next?" Mr. Schue asked as Sam and Quinn got up "Alright," Mr. Schue smiled as they made their way down to the front of the choir room. "Okay, I just want to say I'm really excited, and that I couldn't have asked for a better partner," Sam said as Quinn smiled a bit as they began to perform 'Lucky' just like they rehearsed with Quinn helping him play the chords by having her fingers in the position.

As the performance went on between Sam and Quinn it became clear the two were slowly falling for each other, they got lost in the song as the other Glee Club members swayed to the performance, all again but Santana. "So freaking charming," Santana muttered as Sam and Quinn finished up the song as they held hands. Everyone erupted into applause, Finn gave Sam a thumbs up. Quinn quickly took her hand away from Sam's as the applause continued.

Cut to Artie and Brittany in the hallway. "You're- You're breaking up with me?" Brittany asked upset. "All you wanted was a free dinner at Breadstix," Artie frowned as he began to roll away. Brittany went after him "But I really wanted to go with you," she frowned as he turned around "I was going to order us one really, really long piece of spaghetti like in "Lady and the Tramp." I've been practicing nudging the meatball across the table with my nose." "You used me for my voice. That's the only reason you had sex with me. I have it on good authority," Artie said upset.

Cut to flashback of Santana and Artie in the cafeteria. "She's using you for your voice. That's the only reason she had sex with you," Santana smirked. "Wait. How did you know that?" Artie asked confused as Santana then stopped a random guy. "Hi. Excuse me. Do you know Brittany?" Santana asked. "Cheerios Brittany?" The guy asked. "Mmm-hmm," Brittany said. "Yeah. We had sex," the guy said as he walked away. "Hmm," Santana smirked as she turned to a crestfallen Artie "Look, I don't mean to be a bitch..." Santana said as she crouched down to Artie "Well, yeah, actually, I do. But the only thing that you can give Brittany that she can't get somewhere else? Is super choice parking."

Cut back to Artie and Brittany in the hallway. "I know that sex don't mean anything to you, but did you ever think how much it means to me?" Artie frowned "After my accident, we didn't know if I'd ever be able even to do that. And when I found out that I could, it seemed like some kind of miracle, and you just walked all over that. You're not my partner anymore. I told Mr. Schue I'm pulling out of the duet competition." "Artie, I didn't know. I'm... I'm so sorry," Brittany frowned as Artie wheeled himself away. Brittany watched him go, saddened at the fact that she had not only lost her duet partner but someone who had been kind to her.

Later on the Glee Club met in the choir room. "Okay! Since Artie and Brittany have dropped out of the race, I guess it's time to take it to a vote," Mr. Schue said as he handed out the paper to the Glee Club to write down who their votes were for. Finn is shown voting for Sam and Quinn. Mercedes is shown voting for herself and Santana. Mike writes down Tina's name with a heart around it. Quinn wrote down her and Sam's names. Kurt wrote down 'Kurt Elizabeth Hummel' with drawings around it. Brittany then wrote down "ME!"

They soon turned in their papers as Mr. Schue tallied the votes. "Well, even though it looks like just about everyone voted for themselves – even those who didn't compete – we do have a winner. And the winner is... by two votes... Sam and Quinn," Mr. Schue said as Santana looked outraged. "What?! What?!" Santana yelled as Sam got up. "Screw that, I want my 'stix!" Santana said as the tried to go down as Mercedes held her back. "Ooh, let it go. Let go. Let it go," Mercedes said shaking her head. "Unbelievable," Santana huffed as Mr. Schue handed the gift certificate to Sam. "It was mine! No, I don't know how this happened," Rachel said in fake horror as Quinn joined Sam "Unbelievable." "This is so not a date." Quinn whispered to Sam shaking her head. "We did it, babe," Finn grinned to Rachel as the bell rang. Rachel looked back to see Kurt looking sad so she decided to talk to him after class.

Cut to the hallway as Rachel approaches Kurt at his locker. "Hey, I had something I wanted to talk to you about," Rachel said. "Oh, please not another pregnancy," Kurt said horrified. "I think that you and I are a little bit more similar than you think," Rachel said honestly. "That's a terrible thing to say," Kurt said as he sprayed his hair. "I know you're lonely," Rachel said as Kurt looked at her "I can't even imagine how hard it must be to have feelings in high school that you can't act on for fear of being humiliated, ridiculed or worse. We're gonna win Nationals this year, and you know how we're going to do that? Because we have you." Kurt clearly takes what Rachel says into consideration. "That's true," Kurt said. "That's twelve people who love you just for being exactly the way that you are. Look, I know you're lonely, but...you're not alone," Rachel said as Kurt got emotional hearing her say this to him. "So, I was wondering if you would maybe wanna sing a duet with me? I think you'll be really happy with my song selection. It's sort of everything that both you and I love," Rachel grinned. "But the, uh, duet competition is over," Kurt said hesitantly. "I know. I just...I thought this one could be for me and you," Rachel said as Kurt smiled, he was in.

"Can you believe won?" Sam grinned. "I know...I honestly can't," Quinn said shaking her head as we sat at their table at Breadstix. "If you don't mind me asking...what happened to you last year? You seem to be kind of afraid to let anyone in," Sam asked as Quinn sighed. She knew this was going to come up sooner or later. Lima was a small town and everyone talked. "Last year was really hard for me. I got pregnant and nearly lost everything, my reputation, my friends, and my family. I got kicked off the cheerios after being the head cheerleader because of what I had done," Quinn sighed as she took a deep breath "I had the baby and gave her up for adoption after she was born. It was probably the hardest thing I had ever done." Quinn admitted. Sam was about to say something when we were interrupted by our waitress taking our order.

Quinn tried to change the subject after she left. "You know, I hear they don't even make these fresh," Quinn said grabbing a breadstick "They fly them in frozen from some factory in the Dominican Republic." "I once caught some pretty sweet waves down in the Dominican. Hey, hey, hey," Sam said as he did a Matthew McConaughey impression. "Uh..." Quinn said confused by what he was trying to accomplish. "Come on, it's my Matthew McConaughey impression," he grinned "Come on," he said in a Matthew McConaughey voice. "Does that work on the girls where you're from? The impressions, the bad jokes, the... Na'vi?" Quinn asked. "I, uh, I don't know. I went to an all-boys boarding school," Sam said awkwardly. "Makes sense," Quinn nodded. "It must be hard. I think if I went through what you went through last year, I would have transferred to a school on the moon or something out of embarrassment," Sam said as Quinn gave him a look. Was she supposed to be ashamed of what happened to her? "Okay, that didn't come out right. I mean, you're really brave to come back like you have. I don't judge you or anything. I know what it's like to have a... secret that you're ashamed of," Sam said honestly as Quinn's eyes grew wide. Was he about to confess what she thought he was about to?

"Oh, holy crap. So you..." Quinn said as she then whispered "So you are gay?" "What?" Sam laughed "No. Not at all. When I found out I was moving here, I wanted to seem cool, you know? Figured if I looked like Swayze in "Point Break," people might think I was a surfer or something," Sam said as Quinn laughed a bit. "I didn't think it through very clearly. So... I put lemon juice in my hair," Sam said as Quinn laughed even harder "I would have gotten away with it, if it hadn't been for Kurt and his sixth sense." "I think it looks cute," Quinn smiled a bit. "Really?" Sam said as Quinn laughed. He chuckled a bit as they looked into each other's eyes once again.

Quinn then took the gift certificate for Breadstix off the table. "What are you doing?" Sam asked. "We're not using that. You're paying," Quinn said. "Why?" Sam asked confused. "Because a gentleman always pays on the first date," Quinn smiled a bit. Sam smiled back at her. Cut to a shot of Brittany at Breadstix having a plate of spaghetti and meatballs alone as she rolls the meatball with her nose as she described to Artie.

We cut to the choir room where Kurt and Rachel are performing the Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand duet of 'Happy Days are Here Again/Get Happy' in front of the New Directions. Cut to the hallway where Brittany is greeting other cheerios but spots Artie going past with Finn and watches him go by longingly. Cut back to the choir room where Sam and Quinn grove along to the performance as well as Tina and Mike. Cut to Kurt's living room where he tucks in Burt who is asleep on the couch  and turns the light off. Cut back to the choir room as Kurt and Rachel finish the performance, beaming brightly as they felt closer together than ever before.
