Scene 029

The door chimed as Amy placed the last setting on the table. "Are you up?" called the voice from her dreams.

Quickly checking her hair and clothes, Amy called, "Yes, come in."

The door opened and in walked a tall Valdiarian. He stood about six feet six. He filled the doorway. His body was a beautiful work of art. Instead of subtracting from his face, the fine line of a scar that ran across it added an earthly beauty to his face. There was a twinkle in his jaguar green eyes. These were the eyes from her dreams. A black mane of long hair framed his face and head. It was like that of a lion's mane. His ears were further toward the top of his head than a human's. "Greetings," he said, as he stood just inside of the door.

Speechless, Amy gazed at the big man and his fur-covered body. He had a short coat of fur that was the color of a rich butterscotch and had a lustrous look to it. He was everything she had ever dreamed about. The only thing she could do was to smile at him a little dumbfounded.

"I'm not early, am I?" A small hopeful smile crossed Dam's face.

Shaking her head, Amy pulled herself from the stupor she had fallen into. "I'm sorry; I don't know what to say. I've waited so long for this moment. You're spectacular." Blushing, she thought, he must think I am a complete idiot. I've left his standing in the middle of the room. I haven't even invited him to sit.

"Come in and have a seat. Breakfast is ready. Please, ignore the mess. I've not had a chance to get the entire table to Engineering." She pointed toward a chair as she babbled.

As he took a seat at the table, Dam looked over the food. "Hum. This looks good."

Continuing to stand, Amy stared at him with a look of struck wonder. What to do? What do I talk to him about? He couldn't be meant for me, she thought over and over again like a scratched CD.

"You're not going to join me?" The smile he had on his face turned into an engaging grin.

Nodding her head, Amy pulled out her chair. She was so fascinated with Dam that she almost missed her chair. Blushing, she glanced down at the chair and took her seat. So many wondrous thoughts and feelings were flowing through her. They pushed out all rational thought.

He cleared his throat. He was struck by her beauty. "Would you tell me what we're going to eat?"

"May I call you by your name?" whispered Amy with eyes that never left his face.

"Yes," said Dam. He turned his grin down a few watts to just a small smile. It was quite intimate. "Now, how about breakfast?"

Amy blankly looked at him until he prompted again, "Breakfast, what is it?"

"Yes, breakfast," said Amy, looking down at the table. She'd forget what she had made for him. "Hum, let's see. We've sunny-side up eggs and bacon. As well as, pancakes with syrup, hash browns, and Orange Juice to drink."

Giving a small sniff, Dam's ever present smile turned into a full-blown grin. "It smells excellent. It should taste good." He reached out and took a bite of eggs. "Hum," he said in bliss.

Picking up her fork, Amy started in on her own breakfast. It didn't matter to her what she ate as long as she could watch Dam.

Breakfast was eaten in silence as they watched each other and with each bite, smiles were exchanged. As the dishes were being cleaned up, Dam noticed the silverware for the first time. "What is this?" He flexed his fork back and forth.

"That's a suggestion I made to both Kronk and Cat. On my planet we have metal eating utensils but we also have plastic ones. That," She pointed to the fork. "Is made of plastic. The simulator can make as many as you want. Kronk said, if they worked out, the Valdiar's Space Fleet would be able to eliminate some unnecessary weight."

He played with his fork a moment longer. "That's nice the way you said that." Dam sat back in his chair and watch Amy with a look in his eyes she couldn't explain.

"What?" Puzzlement filled her. She didn't understand what he was talking about.

"My name, the way you say it is very nice."

"Your name is Dam, right? I don't remember saying your name." Amy shook her head and took her seat at the table.

"Yes, I knew you would pronounce it nice." He gave her a small chuckle and the look on his face was that of a mischievous boy.

Puzzled and rubbing her forehead, Amy thought, what is he talking about? With a flash of insight, she felt a grin begin to form. He had with his feline ways had set her up to get her to break the ice. Laughter came from her middle and rolled right out.

Soon, Dam was joining her. Delight was twinkling in his eyes.

"You are a sly one. I'll have to remember that," she said. The ice that had muzzled her tongue was melted.

With a wink and a grin, he said, "So tell me about your trip so far" He sat back and settled into his chair.

Surprisingly, Amy found herself doing just that and they talked for over and an hour. She told him about her amazement and surprise over the things she had experienced and learned.
