Chapter Three

As children our parents would read us stories, we believed in them while we were young but as you grow up you realise they're just stories. The world is nothing like what we hear in fairy tales, there's no happily ever after, just after.

There's one thing the stories got right though, the wolves are dangerous.

Like in the stories, the werewolves are predators. They like to hunt, they like the chase and most importantly they like to kill. They aren't governed by the moon, they can turn into beasts at any time they want. The only thing, or should I say person, that controls them is the Alpha. Every pack has one, the leader, the one in charge.

There's no democracy, you can't choose to be an Alpha, you're born one. They are natural leaders, destined to rule. Alongside Alphas are Lunas, their other half. Werewolves believe in mates, they believe that every single one of them has someone made solely for them. Majority of the times their soulmates are other werewolves but sometimes it's humans too.

The Alpha and Luna are at the top of the food chain and below them are the Betas. They are second in command and hold almost as much power as the Luna, but never the Alpha. The Betas are similar to the Alphas though, they are also born into power.

After the Beta there are the warriors, they however are selected by the Alpha. The number of warriors differs pack to pack but the system is the same for all werewolves. Those in the Alpha, Luna or Beta's families are high ranked as well, there's no official title for them but their status is slightly higher than the pack warriors.

Alessandro Aristov is the Alpha of the neighbouring pack. Alphas are brutal in general but Aristov is known to be merciless, someone who enjoys inflicting pain on others, a sadist.

His cousin was dead and once Aristov found out, he would seek vengeance not stopping until he was satisfied.

We had our laws and rules to follow and they had theirs. While our rules were more like guidelines to werewolves, we had to follow theirs strictly as if we were one of them. No one would step in to help us if we got caught.

We could have got help if it was some random werewolf, there would have been a report, evidence would have been collected and there a decision would be made by both human and werewolf leaders. That's the way it usually works and this system has worked for years but when it comes to high rank pack members sometimes the human leaders look the other way. It also depends on the Alpha of the pack, the way they view humans and the relationships werewolves and humans have in general in that area.

There are some places where humans and werewolves thrive together and are treated equally and other places where it's not a good place to live in as humans are treated as second class citizen. We're fortunate to live here with Alpha Elias, he is a fair Alpha, he does his best to treat everyone equally which is echoed in his pack.

But even Alpha Elias would not be able to help us in this situation. We had to handle it ourselves.

I had completed my list while Cami rested. I told her to get some sleep before we did this but I could see the fear in her eyes, she was too scared to go upstairs and sleep so I suggested she slept in the living room while I made the plan.

I had everything ready and was confident we could so this. After we buried the body, we would have to clean every inch of this house, just in case we missed anything, burn our clothes and destroy any objects we used.

As long as we stuck to the plan, this would work.

"Cami, wake up." I shook Cami gently, trying my best not to startle her. "We have to do this now."

Cami opened her eyes and blinked several times. "I was hoping this was all a nightmare."

I smiled weakly and helped her up. "Here's the plan. We're going to wrap him up with this rug." I told her, using my foot to indicate the rug in the room we were going to use. "And then tape it securely. Once we've done that, we're going to put him in the back seat of the car. I don't think he's going to fit in the boot and I don't want to waste time trying."

"How are we going to put him in the car?"

"We're going to lift him up. I'll drive my car to the backyard and we'll take him out through the back. It's dark and no one will see." I explained the plan while Cami shook her head.

"I can't touch him!"

"Please Cami, I can't lift him up myself. If I could, I wouldn't be telling you to help. Plus he'll be wrapped up in the carpet, so you won't actually touch him."

Cami nodded and I let out a sigh of relief. In silence, we took the large rug to the kitchen. Cami avoided looking down at the man who was there while I crouched down and started pushing him on onto the carpet, not bothering to pull his trousers up.

Once I managed to get him on rug, I slowly started to roll the rug so it covered his body. It took a lot longer than I expected, his legs were sticking out so I had to put him in a fetal position but I managed to do it. After that was done, Cami and I taped the rug tightly, making sure it was secure and that nothing could be seen. If someone did see us, all they would see was us moving a rug. Nothing that would raise any alarms.

I drove the car to the back of our house and Cami unlocked the garden door. Slowly and trying to be as quiet as possible, we lifted the rug containing the body and headed towards the car. The weight of the body and the rug caused my arms to ache but we couldn't stop, we had to get it in the car. Once that was done, we put the shovel and torch into the boot and locked the house.

We drove in silence both of us filled with anxiety and fear. My head felt like it would explode with all the thoughts that were running through it, all the questions and most importantly the doubt.

Are we doing the right thing? Is it too late to turn and go to the police?

Saddleworth Moor was only 40 minutes away from where we lived. It was a huge moorland that had a stunning view and people visited here daily despite it's past. Around 60 years ago, a man and woman lured five young children, murdered them and buried their body in the moors. One of the victim has yet to be found however there are rumours of more bodies being buried here.

When I was a young teenager, my friends and I came here during Halloween. We wanted to scare the shit out of each other. We walked around here at night, it was one of the most eerie feeling I ever had. I felt like I was walking on people's grave and I could have been. I promised I would never go back there and I didn't, until now.

It would be the perfect place to hide something, the moors was enormous so no one would find it even if they tried.

"We'll have to carry the body for a bit before we bury it." I told Cami as we came to a stop.

"Why can't we just do it here? I have a bad feeling about this." Cami whispered.

I shook my head. "We can't do it here, it's too close. We have to make sure it's completely hidden."

"We don't have to do this, we can go back. It's not too late." Cami pleaded with me.

"Come on." I said firmly. "Let's go. We'll find a spot, dig the hole and then we'll come back for the body and bury it."

I got out of the car and went around to the back and opened the boot. I quickly grabbed the shovel and torch and slammed the boot door down. We circled around for a bit, trying to find the best place to dig. After a while, we finally found a spot.

"Here." I handed Cami my torch. "We'll do it here."

In the movies when you watch someone dig a hole to hide something or bury a body, it looks effortless, they are easily able to break the ground and they're done in a few minutes. I was nowhere near done in a few minutes, it took me almost an hour to dig a hole big and deep enough to fit a large man. By the end of it I was completely drenched in sweat, my arms quivering from the pain and my body crying out for a break but we couldn't stop now.

"Maybe you should take a break?" Cami suggested as she looked down at the huge hole.

"No, let's finish this."

Carrying a dead body wrapped in a rug with a torch in between my teeth in the dark was not something I would recommend. We made several stops, almost slipped and knocked ourselves out but finally managed to take the body to his final resting spot.

He fell in with a loud thud, causing us to wince at the sound. I grabbed the shovel again and this time instead of creating a hole, I covered it up.

"It's done." I sighed in relief as I looked down. "We just need to clean up now and lay low for a bit. We're going to be fine."

The drive back home was almost therapeutic, completely opposite to how I was feeling driving to the moors. I felt as though a weight had been lifted from my shoulders and while I should be horrified at the crime we had just committed, I felt almost happy at how well we did.

Oh god, I sound like a psychopath!

I parked the car in front of our house and leaned back against my seat. "We need to clean up now. We have cleaning products in the house, we'll use that. If we run out, we'll get some tomorrow morning. I'll also take the car for a wash and we'll toss the phone out on the way. I'll ring college up and let your tutors know you'll be off for a few days."

Cami stared blankly out of the window, not responding to what I said.

"Cami." I said softly. "It's over, you're safe."

Cami's teary gaze met mine. "Why don't I feel safe then?"

I swallowed the large lump in my throat. "I promise I won't let anything happen to you."

If it comes to it, I'll take the fall.

"Do you want to talk to someone about it?"

"No!"

I put my hands up. "Okay, you don't have to. Just a suggestion. Come on, let's go inside."

We were at the front door when I remembered the torches and shovel in the boots. "Go on, I'm going to quickly grab the stuff."

I ran to the car and grabbed everything, in a rush to go inside I failed to notice something.

A pair of dark eyes watching me intently.

A/N: I hope you guys liked the chapter, please let me know what you think of the story so far.

The part about Saddleworth Moors is true, if you're from England you'll probably know what happened there. If not and you're interested to know either search up Saddleworth Moors or Ian Brady and Myra Hindley.

A little warning though, what they did was absolutely disgusting and evil and it involved young children. Please don't search this up if it is something that may trigger you.

Following on from that this book will contain dark and mature content. If this is something that upsets you please don't read it. You can read my other story Fated Hearts which is a lot more lighter.

Thank you for reading!
