Aiyanna

After three classes, I was able to recognize a few faces, although I still confused their names. There was always at least one person at the end of each class who had the courage to come talk to me, and guide me through the crowd of students. Their questions were all quite the same. Where did I come from, how did I like Forks so far and what was my next class. One of them, I believed his name was Eric, asked me if he could touch my braids, which I refused.

I met a girl during my civilisation class, who turned out to also be in my maths class as well. Her name was Jessica. She was quite petite. Her brown hair with blond highlights were flowing down on her shoulders and were held back by a headband. She kindly talked to me during classes and even invited me to eat with her and the rest of her friends at lunch, which was were we were headed now.

She sat down at a table that had already students around it. I recognized Mike and Eric, but haven't been introduced to the three others yet.

"Oh, Aiyanna !" Mike said as he noticed me.

"Hey. For the ones I haven't seen yet, I'm Aiyanna Brown." I introduced myself, as I waved at them after putting my tray on the table.

I sat between Jessica, and another girl with glasses on. Tyler, Lauren and Angela introduced themselves to me.
As the new girl, I did understand that people wanted to get to know me, even though I found this process a little bit awkward, so I let them ask me all the questions they had in mind. I hoped it'd only last for today.

When it seemed that they had all the information they needed, they started talking about how they spent their summer, and what they were expecting for this year. I decided not to take any part in this conversation, since I considered I already talked too much, and continued eating.

In the midst of enjoying my food in silence, I saw them. There, in the farthest corner of the cafeteria, alone in their own world as if they were trapped in an invisible bubble, impenetrable by anyone who wasn't a part of their group. Each of their faces was unique. None of them looked alike. However, what they had in common was their snow-like skin and their beauty that I haven't seen anywhere else. There were five of them.

The one that caught my attention first was the buffest guy. His hair were pitch black which only accentuated how pale his skin was. He surely didn't look like a student of our age. He seemed more mature. He was sitting next to a blond girl who had a resting bitch face on, and yet looked really attractive, even to me. She seemed tall, at least a lot taller than the other brown haired girl sitting next to her. Her shoulders were lower than the blond one's. She looked younger than the rest of them, but still looked as beautiful nonetheless. Beside her, was a dark-blond haired guy who was less buffy than the dark haired one, but looked like he still had muscles hidden under his clothes. The last one, was the guy I sat next to in my first period: Edward.

Although I already went through my little staring contest with him earlier, I still found myself staring at him until my eyes met his. They were barely moving, and yet, he was the only one whose eyes went from staring at nothing, to me. Instead of suddenly avoiding his eyes, I slightly smiled and nodded at him, as a sign of salutation, and then went back to my tray of food that was slowly emptying itself the more I ate. I waited a while, to make sure Edward wasn't staring at me anymore before I looked up again. His eyes were back on his food that he didn't seem to have touched yet. Actually none of them ate.

This was my cue. I leaned closer to Jessica, and whispered to her as if I was scared they might catch what I was saying, even though they were staying far away from our table.

"Who the hell are they ? I didn't know there were more of Edward's kind." I asked her.

"You know Edward ?" she asked in return.

"He was in my Spanish class." I stated. "Who are the others ?"

I was sure she didn't even need to look up at them, to know who I was talking about. I bet they were famous in the whole school whether they tried to blend in or not.

"Emmett Cullen, Rosalie Hale, Alice Cullen, Jasper Hale and well, Edward. They live with the doctor Cullen and his wife." she said, as she named them following the order they were seated.

I frowned. So they were related ? How come none of them looked alike ? I couldn't help but notice how their names weren't the regular ones you'd hear everywhere.

"So, three of them are related, and the two others too." I assumed.

"Not really. Rosalie and Jasper are twins, and the doctor Cullen and his wife adopted them. Emmett, Edward and Alice were also adopted, but aren't related. Alice and Edward are 17, the rest are 18."

"Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett." I said, trying to memorize their names.

"Yeah. These two by the way are dating. Same goes for Alice and Jasper."

"Huh ?" I let out, without even realizing.

My reaction seemed to amuse Jessica, because she scoffed and nodded. "Yeah, weird right ? Even if they aren't related, aren't they suppose to treat themselves as step-brothers and step-sisters ?"

"Yeah. But...I guess it's their business." I shrugged.

"I wonder if Edward would've dated his step-sister if they had adopted another girl." she added. "I'm saying this for your own good, and for you to avoid being hurt: don't try to hit on him. Apparently, no one is good enough for him. He rejected any girl who tried to approach him."

I couldn't help but notice how she looked like she didn't like them. She looked at them as if she was still holding a grudge against them, or may I say against Edward. He might've rejected her advances too.

"Don't worry, I'm not interested in being in a relationship." I told her.

She suddenly became more curious. "Why ? Did you recently break up with your boyfriend ?"

"I've been single for 17 years. When you're single for that long, you get used to it. Having a boyfriend would only make me go out of my comfort zone, which is something I'm not ready for right now." I answered.

I've never been in a relationship before. I could be a good friend to guys, but when it came to being more than friends, I wasn't in. I wasn't ready mentally, nor did I know how to get ready for this.

"Say that to the guys who have been eyeing you so far. I'm sure I noticed one or two." she mumurs the last part, as her eyes looked at Mike before she hung her head low.

My eyes met Mike's when I followed Jessica's gaze. I quickly avoided his eyes and looked at my food. This was really awkward. Was it possible that Jessica liked Mike ? I wasn't here long enough to know that. But if one of the guys she was talking about included Mike, I was sorry to say that I wasn't interested.

The bell rang once again, signaling to go to our next class. I watched the Cullens stand up gracefully, and put their tray away. An aura emanated from them, that made them look mesmerizing. I didn't know why, but I kept thinking that from our point of view, they were untouchable, but maybe from theirs it was pressuring to be looked at by everyone.

But again, it was just my thought.

~~

After going through two classes, it was time for my last and favorite class: P.E.

I always enjoyed P.E. It helped me get rid off of all my thoughts and just focus on finding ways to exhaust myself. Useless to mention that I was competitive.

When I saw seniors with us, I only recognized them because Rosalie Hale and Emmett Cullen were also there, I quickly realized that being a senior or a junior didn't matter in P.E. In my previous school, it was different. The seniors were together and the same went to the juniors, sophomores and freshmens.

The teacher, Mister Clapp, did a brief self-introduction before he enumerated the sports we would do during the year. We would start with rugby, then volleyball and finally basket ball.

Considering the strength difference between girls and boys, the teacher split up the class by gender and then made two teams by mixing both seniors and juniors. My team, was against Rosalie's team. She was actually the only one I knew the name of.

It was very common in my old school to practice rugby. Some would say that rugby was quite violent, and that you could get hurt easily, and it was true. But I loved it. I liked working as a team, I liked running around and I liked tackling people to the ground.

As the game started, I could see who liked rugby and who didn't. Who were the fastest, and who were the ones who would easily tackle people to the ground. But unfortunately, a few people from my team didn't seem to be into sports, which was kind of a weakness for us. I couldn't really do anything about it. Some people liked sports and some didn't.
It made me work twice harder to fill in the void they created.

A few scores had been made, and Rosalie Hale was the main scorer from the other team. She was one of the ones who focused on her speed. I couldn't help but admire how well she played. It literally looked like she had eyes behind her back, or else, I wouldn't be able to explain how she could avoid being tackled so smoothly.

I became more competitive when I processed that we were losing. I noticed not many people from my team tried to stop Rosalie, which I could understand. She was strong, and seemed unstoppable. So, why bother ? But it wouldn't hurt to try once.

It was with this mindset that I found myself, face against the ground, after I failed to stop her. It even made me wonder if I ever touched her. I looked up, and watched Rosalie score again. How could she be this good ? This only ignited a fire in me, not because I was annoyed, but because she became a new challenge to me.

Lost in my thoughts, I didn't realize that Rosalie was now in front of me, with her hand stretched towards me. Surprised, I reached for her hand, but she grabbed my covered forearm and helped me get up. Her grip was strong, and even her arms were quite hard.

"Haven't been here for a whole day yet and you're already trying to tackle me. Courageous of you." Rosalie commented.

"A game is a game." I answered while shrugging.

"You played well. Not enough to beat me though." she smirked.

I scoffed. "Oh are you provoking me right now ? Please, don't. You might wake up the beast." I warned her. "You played well too. I'm Aiyanna."

"Rosalie."

I heard Mister Clapp blow his whistle, signaling that our game ended, and that it was the boys turn. Being the only teacher, he couldn't be the referee of two games at the same time, so us ladies went first.

The other girls and I stood on the side, and watched the game for the rest of the hour.

I caught the whispers which were really not that discreet, about me talking to Rosalie. Was that a subject to talk about ? Was Rosalie or the rest of the Cullens, not people you could talk to ?
I rolled my eyes, deciding to ignore them, and continued watching the boys play until the last whistle blow was heard.

Just like Edward in my Spanish class, Rosalie was the first one to get out of the changing rooms. When I walked out, I saw her walking away, hand in hand with Emmett Cullen.

As it was time to go back home, I decided to walk since my mom wasn't supposed to finish work anytime sooner. And, when she dropped me off, I realized that the school wasn't that far from my house, which was why I found no problem walking. It was probably a 20 minutes walk.

At this point, I didn't know if the people I met today would actually be my friends, but I knew that it wouldn't be hard to socialize with them.
