"She's Ada, you know?

She's perfect."

"I totally freaked out and ran out of there, man," Peter sighed, "I'm never going to have the guts to tell her."

They we're having lunch together at school the day after Peter had ran out of the Tower. Ada wasn't there, which felt quite strange still. But she was supposed to be back in school after a few more days of bed rest.

"I don't think this is about guts anymore. I think something is holding you back," Ned said.

Peter signed, running a tired hand over his face. Ned was right. Peter had stayed up all night thinking about it and he had come to the same conclusion. He wanted to tell her but he couldn't. Each time, he freaked out and ran away. Then he realized it wasn't at all because he was nervous.

"When...When Ada died in the hospital, my first thought was what had I done? I still feel like it was my fault because I didn't consider her feelings at all and kept thinking about how I was feeling. That day, she had come to my house before she ran away and I said some really, really mean things to her. If I was in her place, I never would have forgiven me. But when she woke up and I apologized, she did. But then she told me that she wanted to take baby steps," Peter sighed, running his hand through his hair, "I get why, but it's just...I don't want to take baby steps, Ned. I just want...I just want to tell her everything. I really, really like her, man. She's just...She's Ada, you know? She's perfect."

"But you're afraid that if you don't respect her feelings this time, she might get hurt again," Ned said. Peter nodded, dropping his head.

"I don't know how long she wants us to go on like this," he groaned.

Before Ned could respond, Michelle and Vivian joined their table, cutting off their conversation. Ned threw Peter an expression that said they would talk about this later and Peter shrugged half-heartedly, absentmindedly moving his food around on his plate with his fork. As Vivian took a seat beside Ned, she silently asked him with her eyes why Peter looked so down. Ned shook his head, reassuring her it was nothing.

"Sorry we're late," Vivian said, "Mr. Harrington needed some help."

"Help with what?" Ned asked.

"Oh you don't know? The Decathlon is hosting a winter dance to raise money for the club. The dance isn't until December, but he wanted us to start preparing for it early so we can get it all done in time," she explained, "Michelle and I were making posters."

"Winter dance? Huh," Ned said, thinking to himself. The last time that he had asked Vivian to a dance, they had never actually gotten to the dance part with Adelaide having been in danger that night. Maybe this could be his chance to finally get his dance with Vivian. That was, if he could find the guts to ask her out again. But there was still plenty of time until then.

"It'll be fun," Vivian smiled, "And we'll be able to raise a lot of money, too."

"Yeah," he agreed, grinning at her like a dork.
