Chapter 46 | go time

You didn't quite know how L somehow knew how to fly a helicopter, but here you were in the back of one while you chased several police cars down the road on pursuit of Higuchi.

Your focus was locked and loaded. So far, everything had gone smoothly. The Sakura TV fakeout had worked, he began talking to a Shinigami and it looks like he'd done the eye deal. This was the most thrilling thing you'd done since the day you died. That and when you walked past Jack the Ripper back in the 1800s. And to be honest, they did look anything like the witness reports, they were more... red?

You knew all the deities would be watching this, it was all eyes on you.

You watched out the window, cars surrounding Higuchi and blocking him from going anywhere else.  The helicopter circles the area, coming to a hover.

"You ready?" L asked.

"Let's get this spy movie shit on the road" you replied, pulling a helmet on. Opening the door, you slid down on a rope, drawing a gun and pointing it at Higuchis car.

The police beginning to surround with riot shields, he had no way of getting out.

"Step out of the car with your hands up" L's voice came from the speakers connected to the helicopter.

Slowly, he did so.

"There's multiple gunsmen pointed at you, including a trained sniper, I wouldn't try anything if I were you"

Another thing you wondered was where the hell Watari of all people became a trained sniper. You knew he had your back if anything happened. Not that you could die, but you sure as hell could feel pain.

You heard the helicopter make touchdown behind you as your approached Higuchi.

"You're cornered Higuchi, cooperate and there'll be no problems" L said.

You scanned the area around him for the book, outside the car stood the Shinigami, watching you. She knew. She knew you weren't human. You got close enough to speak to him, gun still pointed to his head.

"You're under arrest for suspicion of being a kira associate, multiple traffic violations and possession of an illegal firear-"

You didn't get to finish, Higuchi taking his chances and whipping out a gun firing it right at your ankle. Hitting you, you collapsed dropping the gun and crying out in pain. Another gunshot went off, Watari having shot him the same way he shot you to disable him. You heard the riot squad move in, restraining and blindfolding him. Followed by the rushed footsteps of L skidding to your side.

"(Y/n)-"

"Get the book. It's in the car. Get it before light can!" You winced.

Stumbling to his feet, he rushed to the car snatching the book from the passenger seat. He didn't take the time too look at it, rushing back to your side.

Your foot bled out on the ground, a pool of blood starting to form. Eyes teary, you let L pull you into his arms. Aizawa ran past, telling you he'd radio for an ambulance from the police cars.

"Look I know this won't kill you but it hurts like hell right? You'll be ok" L said.

"The death note-" you managed to stammer through the pain.

"Yeah?"

"Shove it down your jeans"

"Wha-"

"Light will use this as an excuse to try and take it off you. Don't let him. Hide it from him"

You had a point, you could already see Light climbing out of the helicopter to rush over and help. Acting quick, L did as you said, shoving the book down his jeans and covering the top with his shirt.
