Varian ran as fast as he could.

He nearly mowed down Eugene and Rapunzel as they called out to him but he didn't care.

He was screwing up.

Nothing made sense... he couldn't take everything that was happening to him.

He felt like he was living a life of secrets.

Maybe even lies.

Why couldn't Cass understand? Why wouldn't she just leave him alone?

"Varian?", Xavier asked as Varian ran into the warm blacksmith.

"Y-Yes?"

"Are you alright?"

Varian stood there, "I'm good.", he swallowed.

"You look pale, come and have a cup of tea with me."

Varian hesitated.

Xavier smiled at him, "I won't bite."

"I- okay... I suppose.", Varian agreed following the man into the shop.

He sat down in one of the chairs as Xavier poured them some hot tea, the gentle aroma calming down Varian's nerves.

"So,", Xavier started, "What is the trouble?"

"Trouble? Everything's fine."

"You looked scared before, worried."

"...I suppose..."

"No one can help if you don't let them.", he advised.

Varian took a sip of tea not meeting his eyes.

"Do... do you know anything about-,", Varian stopped himself.

What was he thinking??

The king himself had destroyed any other evidence of the moonstone and it's secrets.

Why would this old blacksmith know anything about that?

"Know what?"

"It's nothing.", Varian stood up, "Thank you for the tea Xavier."

Xavier stopped him, "You can ask."

"No really, just forgot what I was going to say... I should be heading back home."

Varian gulped as Xavier stared into his eyes for a moment before moving out of the way.

"Have a safe trip back home."

"Ummm, thanks."

Varian sped past him, rushing back to his house and into his room.

As he shut the door Varian felt a rush of relief.

Home.

He sunk into the soft covers of his bed, burying his face in the warm fabric.

He felt Ruddiger purr gently into his ear as he climbed up next to him.

Varian petted him, "I don't know what to do next buddy... it's almost impossible to figure anything out without raising suspicion and making Cass mad at me."

"Find out what exactly?"

Varian started and looked around, seeing Set again in his room.

He was leaning against the wall, one foot propped against it.

"How long have you been here?"

He shrugged, "I'll let you figure it out since you weren't paying attention to your surroundings."

Varian sighed, "I'm just... I'm just not myself lately..."

Set nodded, "Things have been rough for you huh?"

"Even harder now that I don't know how to find anything out."

"Well, what's stopping you?"

Varian turned away.

"I don't want to hurt Cassandra...", Varian mumbled as he felt Set walk towards him.

"Take this."

Varian then found himself holding a leather bound book titled praemetuens magicae.

"What's this for?", Varian asked staring at the old book.

"For all the questions you're wondering Varian.", Set answered touching his shoulder lightly, "There all in there, all in that one book."

"Praemetuens magicae. That's Latin isn't it?"

Set smiled, "Yup. Know what it means?"

Varian stared at the delicate curved writing and nodded, "It means 'Forsaken Magic'."
