Jacob Panetta was born in Belleville, Ontario, and is the son of Vince and Lisa Panetta. His cousin is Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw who hoisted Lorde Stanley's Cup in 2015. Jacob decided to play juniors where he netted 15 goals, 47 assists for a total of 62 points in his juniors career. Panetta headed to Hamilton and joined the Colgate University Raiders where he produced 9 goals, 16 assists for a total of 25 points in his 136 games for the Raiders.
