Chapter 40

~Jack P.O.V.~

Jamie sighed as Pitch aimed a black knife formed by his nightmare sands and glanced right back at me and Sandy. I won't let Jamie go for all this mess. I owe him. I need him. He's my best friend and my brother. I can't let him go just that!

"Fine. Five more seconds.... Five..." Pitch counted.

Sandy faced me and shook his head from right to left. 'No.'

"I know. But Rapunzel should be safe too. I..."

"Four..."

"I don't know what to do anymore!"

"Three..."

Sandy opened his eyes widely when he saw Pitch nearing the knife to Jamie's throat. I was frustrated and nervous. This is unfair. If only I could have another option... If only Rapunzel is safe and I could save Jamie now... If only—

"Two..."

Sandy signaled 'stop' to Pitch but our enemy's not responding to him. "I will only stop to Jack's final decision, Sandman."

I sighed.. I am so sorry, Punzie. I will miss you and I love you so much. I hope you'll understand this.

"One!"

But Jamie .... he's a brother.. Family comes first..

"I..." I started to speak. "I choose..."

Pitch was already pressing the black knife on Jamie's throat slowly. And Jamie was looking through my eyes then blinked and looked from afar behind me. But not in a remorseful way... more of... bewilderingly?

All of a sudden an orange curved piece of wood hit the side of Pitch's knife that made it sprang to one of his nightmares and killed it. The weapon flew back to its rightful owner and when I traced it, I saw Bunnymund first and then the rest of the gang. A smile made its way to curve into my lips.

"You didn't think I'd save both you and your dearly beloved sibling there? Wipe off that sneer, mate."

I smirked.

"You!" Pitch shouted from behind. I turned back to see Jamie. Gladly, he's still fine. But Pitch is not anymore calm. This. Is. Dangerous. "You're a traitor!"

By what he said, I know he is not referring to Bunnymund which made me glance back at the gang again and I almost fell when I saw Nefaria holding Rapunzel's hand.

I am not sure if I should be mad or happy to see her rescuing Rapunzel. I mean, she led me to this mess.

Yet as I thought and buffered through what I should feel, I was assured not to frown when I saw Hiccup and Merida standing beside each other. My friends are safe.... except for one.

"I am sorry, Pitch... But I have already known before that you can never be a fatherly-figure. Nor my mother would be treating me as her daughter. I feel like your slave!" Nefaria shot to both of them.

"Nefaria... My child, I was only doing what's best for my dear flower." Gothel fake-smiled as she took something from behind her. Before she could reveal that..

"Not anymore. I am no longer listening to any of your LIES. And if you're thinking of getting Rapunzel, YOUR FLOWER, back, you're not!" She let go of Rapunzel and looked to me. She mouthed, 'Get her'. Then she turned into a fire lady. You know.. A lady in fire?

"This war ends today. And it is my honor to do that." She added.

Pitch scowled to us and his step-daughter. "So be it." Pitch gave Gothel Jamie and told her to watch over their bait.
