M: We need to talk.
R: Okay..
He aims for non-chalance but her tone is so serious it's shaken him, and his voice wavers a little. He stood there just hugging her and she continues to snuggle on to him.
M: I think it'll be better for us to sit down. *she releases him from her hug and reaches out for the blanket that's folded at their feet. They always have a picnic blanket at the back of every car they use for cases like this*
He sits on the blanket with his elbows on his knees and his fingers locked together; she's sittting down indian style, facing him. Her hands clasp together as if praying. He was wringing his hands without even knowing why.
She clears her throat.
M: Love, remember my birthday?
R: How could I forget? That was only three weeks ago. You look so beautiful that night. Hot and sultry. Remember what happened after? *smirks*
M: I'm glad you remember it. Kasi that's where it all began I think.
R: What do you mean?
M: *takes a deep breath* I was suppose to get my period a week after that.
R: *eye widen* Are you..? Wait.. but you..
M: I know what you're thinking, no I'm not. But last week I thought I was..
R: *confused* How.. I mean why? I mean how? *opens mouth then closes it again*
M: *smiles and gives R a smack* Tinatanong mo talaga sakin yung "how"?
R: Pero.. you were.. and now you're not..
M: Ang gulo mo! *laughs*
R: You can't hit me with news like this and not expect me to be shocked. Tapos tatawanan mo pa ko. *pouts*
M: *chuckles* Believe me I couldn't even smile last week.
R: Bakit di mo kagad sinabi sakin? Why did you keep it to yourself for a whole week?
M: What am I suppose to tell you? "RJ, buntis yata ako pero di naman yata pero five days na kong delayed pero di ako sure, di ko rin alam" Ganoon ba?
R: *opens his mouth again, unsure of what to say, closes it and just nods. It seems to be all he can do*
M: Like I said, I wasn't sure. Walang namang iba sa pakiramdam ko. And this is not the first time na may delays ako alam mo yan. But this is the longest so far. So I texted Doc Jen and I asked her, yun pala nagkamali ako ng calculation. Di ba nagpalit ako ng birth control pill because my previous one was causing me so much headache na parang may migraine na ko tapos grabe break out ng pimples ko? Kaya nag iba ng din ng dates ng cycle ko. So what I thought na delayed, was not really delayed, rather nag iba talaga. I just thought that I should tell you.
R: Oh, thank God! *closes his eyes*
M: I'm sorry?
R: *he opens his eyes to see her frowning, eyebrows furrowed, and can't help but laugh as he realized what she's thinking* No no! Hindi yun! Jusko Menggay ko hindi yun! You sounded so serious earlier nung nag aya ka mag usap, I thought you were sick or- or breaking up with me again or something!
She laughs too and he grins, mesmerized just by the sight of her. So he stands, pulling her up to him, and judging by her yelp, he has taken her by surprise. His arms slip around her waist and he kisses her, fiercely, wondering why he feels like crying and laughing all at the same time. When they parted he tells her he loves her, and she presses her face into his chest with a smile.
