Chapter 37: the insect queen

I was jolted awake in a different manner than I expected. I had originally thought it would be to a sexual advance or being hung on a web, granted I was being held, but it was not out of lust, rather out of protection.
"That fucking bitch actually released her devil bugs!" One of the Arachne shouted.
"And you thought that she wouldn't, Jess?!" Shouted the fluffier one.
"Valencia, I don't know what to believe after being down here for so long." The first one sighed.
"We can't let them have him... he hasn't regenerated at all despite having slept for nearly two days." Scarlett stated.
I was groggy and could barely understand anything that was going on. Had it really been two days? Why was I still drained of all spirit energy? My thoughts were interrupted by loud buzzing. I faintly heard Jess comment on the retreating monsters and Scarlett whispered something about the bee queen. Something ripped me from Scarlett's grip and I tumbled unable to move until I was on the ground. I tried to sit up but felt so heavy. I felt as I was rolled over and when I saw the bee queen I knew that I was screwed in both the figurative and literal sense. The bee suddenly turned her head and a bolt of red purified magic fired from her stinger. I heard a series of gasps followed by stunned silence. I turned my head and found the last thing I had expected.
I've seen monsters fight and die, but I've never seen one actually try and kill another one.
Jess ran over to Scarlett and began to place webbing over her injuries, but whatever she had been hit with was enough to cause more than one wound and increase the amount of bleeding that occurred.
It was like blinking, one second I was on the ground weak and then in the next I was in a different position somewhere else even weaker and covered in blood that wasn't my own.
"See if you can get the hellwolves down here, I'll stay with these two." Jess said.
Valencia nodded and disappeared for fifteen minutes before returning with the hellwolves. Jess placed a hand on my skin and it went through as if I wasn't there. Okami ran towards me and was actually able to make physical contact with me despite my tie to reality being so thin as my soul threatened to give way.
Okami's touch was blissful, it was a feeling similar to how you would feel towards someone if they grabbed you before you did something that would seriously harm you. The only thing that existed in my point of view was Okami.
"Hold on, Kiba's opening a portal, we found three potential sources and two of them are confirmed friendly, however we can't control who we end up with but we managed to stay away from the woman who sent you here." Okami explained in a tone that seemed sweet, but failed to hide her panic and fear.

The hellwolf wrapped her long arms around me and tried to control her breathing. If she breathed too quickly it would lead to hyperventilation, but if she breathed too slowly she would begin to shudder horribly. The second option wasn't bad, but her monster species had the natural tendency to hide weakness no matter what happened. Eventually Okami stopped breathing altogether and I weakly squeezed her arm.
"Breathe." I whispered. Okami listened and began to shudder. After some time I felt as she lifted me up, I heard the voices of the other monsters but couldn't make any of it out. Out of the corner of my eye a purple vortex spun around and similarly colored lightning shot from it. I watched as Jess went first carrying Scarlett who seemed very pale. Okami went next and she held me tightly as light flashed around us and we appeared in the demon realm, or at least a desert portion of it. Through my blurry vision I saw a small settlement with a wide range of monsters and a few humans. Upon noticing us one of the monsters- a bee girl- quickly flew over to a large building in the center and within seconds a scorpion girl who was larger than the normal monster came out with a man at her side.
"And here I thought that Sarah stopped using her chosen." Said the scorpion.

I'm stuck in a car for the next ten hours, I'm aiming for chapter forty today, be prepared for at LEAST one more chapter.
