The next day, back at the academy...
"Wakey wakey. Assembly today!" says Holly, cheerfully.
"5 more minutes, mom!" I mummbled.
"I'm not your mother, little girl. Now, get up!" she says.
"Holly?" I asked, opening my eyes.
"Yea?" she says.
"Ugh..." I mummbled, sitting up, "Since when did you wake up?"
"About 20 minutes ago." she said. She smacks me with a pillow and said, "Get dressed. Principal Campbell's going to make an announcement in exactly 17 minutes."
"Ugh. This early?!" I groaned.
"It's 10:13. How's late early?" she said.
"But it's a Saturday!" I whined.
"What are you, a 40 year old? C'mon!" she said.
"Fine..." I mummbled. I got up and got ready, lazily.
"Ready?" asks Holly.
"Yes..." I said, yawning. We head out the door and walked outside where a stage was set up. There was a huge crowd of people talking in front of it. I looked all around me and realized that there was no sight of Caleb. Good. Near the left side of the stage, I spotted Derek, talking to a girl. He looks at me and starts walking towards me, with the girl following.
"Hey Koda!" says Derek.
"Hey." I said.
"Aww, Derek. So, this is your sister? She's so cute!" says the girl, smiling at me. Cute?
"Yeah, this is Dakota. I call her Koda though." said Derek.
"Nice to meet you! I'm Hayden. Derek told me that he told you about what happened to me..." said Hayden.
"You're his girlfriend?" I asked.
"More of a...you know. Dad." says Hayden.
"I see..." mummbles Holly.
"Your friend?" asks Hayden, glancing at Holly.
"Yeah. This is Holly." I said.
"Nice to meet you." says Hayden, smiling at Holly.
"Yeah, whatever." says Holly.
"Holly..." I said, elbowing her.
"I like your shirt. It's cute." says Hayden.
"Thanks, I guess." says Holly, avoiding eye contact with Hayden.
"You two are getting along very well." says Derek.
"Dakota? Can we talk....in private?" asks Holly, grabbing my arm.
"Sure?" I said, confused. We walked over to an open space where no one was around.
"I don't know about you but I don't like her." says Holly.
"Why not?" I asked.
"She's too nice. And you know people who are too nice irritate me!" she says.
"They do?" I asked.
"Yeah. And can't she be a friend? Not a girlfriend?" she says.
"She's a mother and Derek's the father." I said, clearly.
"I know. Ergh....whatever. Let's go." she says. When she was about to walk away, I stopped her by grabbing her arm. "You like my brother, don't you?" I said, grinning.
