staring over a battlefield and
waiting for peace,
and asked her
why she punished medusa
for being beautiful,
for being hurt,
she would say that it wasn't a punishment,
that it was a cruel sort of kindness,
that now, medusa was
protected.

wondered at
his straining arms and
his heavy shoulders, and
asked him how
he was still carrying
the weight of the world,
he would laugh, tell you
'there's nothing to it.
you just
keep standing.'

if you found aphrodite,
looked upon her
every shifting form, and
asked her
what beauty looked like
she would tell you
it looked like possibility,
like a second chance,
like the way
people can always change,
always grow,
always make
better mistakes.
