The city rests
My heart in chest
Still beats a rhythm I never guessed Some things stay and some things change
But city lights remain the same
As my heart knocks a pattern on the door of my chest
Seeking release while I only seek restThe skyline streaks
Where tear-tracks leak
Dripping rain onto bloody horizons bleak
Morning or night, it's my delight
To watch the red skies near the night
As blood and tear-tracks mingle colour leaks
My heart marred by imperfect streaksThe lights juxtapose
The rising rose
As the sun flowers over blood-stained foes
Sometimes I think the thorny rays
Could draw blood to light the sky for days
But the steel night draws on the blooming rose
Now it's light and night that juxtaposeThe stars pop out
Here and about
Ignoring their most wholly devout
The sun was that which gave them fame
Sacrificed each night to play their game
Over milky cities stars are sprinkled about
But the shadows cut the sun star outThe world is dead
Inside my head
The skyline and stars stained searing red
The landscape of my mind roils with change
But city lights remain the same
The man-made stars lie straight ahead
They gleam whether you're alive or dead***
Dedicated to Richard Cousins, the best man I ever knew and my support through the long night.
The city lights of the buildings you raised will endure where you have not.
I am as happy to have known you as I am sad to have lost you.

Under My Sofa
PoetryWhen I was little I wrote in the space under my sofa. Now I write on top of it. That's not poetic. I'm just too big to fit underneath anymore.
