I was packing away my things from the desk, with mouse behind bars the mission was complete, it had been fun, all apart from losing my partner, why didn't I see it coming, maybe if he'd been shot on the ground I could've saved him, but there was no way he would have survived that fall even if he had survived the shot, but now he was gone, and I didn't even get chance to tell him I lov- "Becca you okay?" I felt an arm rest on my shoulder gently, "I'm fine" i swallowed and continued to pack away my things in my bag until the grip tightened forcing me to turn around and face him. My weak body, weak from lack of sleep, lack of food...finally I gave in and hugged him back, my head buried into his neck under his chin, I allowed a single tear to fall but wiped away just as quickly, they'd never seen me cry, even when I saw Carter's death "I...I'm sorry" I murmured, he was silent but stroked the back of my head.

We stayed in that position for at least 10 minutes, neither of us moving, just standing there hugging when Eric walked in, "oh I mmm sorry, am I interfering something?" We pulled away "I was just comforting her, you're still my parter E" he smiled as he patted him on the shoulder, I turned around and picked up my bag, '"hey we're erm, we're grabbing a beer at the stokers bar, wanna join us? They're on me" Eric smiled at me, I considered it for a moment, getting my life together, but I refused "sorry guys, I'm gonna head home, I'm exhausted" I smiled at them before grabbing Carter's leather jacket pulling it on, it was too big for me but it was his, I grabbed my phone and keys and pulling my bag onto my shoulder. Eric smiled at me and nodded "okay B see you later, and get some sleep!" He

shouted as him and Eric walked though the double doors.

I was alone, the place was empty and quiet, the emptiness would usually be filled by one of Carter's jokes. One of his awful jokes but they always managed to make me laugh, even when I was down, I sighed and smiled to myself sadly, I took one look around the room one last time before heading out, looking a little while longer at Carter's chair, it hadn't been sat in for more than a week, I took a big breath to prevent the tears from falling as I walked to the door, "that's MY jacket" I heard a voice come from behind me, making me stop in my tracks, I turned around slowly and saw a silhouette of a man stood at the top of the stairs, the sun shining in from the window giving the place a warm glow, I held my hand up against the sun but it made no difference, I watched as the silhouette began to walk down the stairs until reached the bottom one, my bag fell from my shoulder, my keys and phone bounced and smashed as they hit the tiled floor, I began to run slowly towards him, before leaping up, wrapping my legs around his waist and hugging him tightly "ha excuse me, that is my jacket" Carter repeated squeezing me back just as tight as was squeezing him, "but I look so much better in it than you" I grinned as I jumped down.

We stood there for a moment, just the two of us "I'm sorry I couldn't tell yoOOOOW" He grabbed his arm in pain from where I'd just punched him " I thought" I swallowed "I thought you were dead!" I sobbed hard holding my hand to my mouth, "well did that punch prove I wasn't a ghost!?" He rubbed it again "Becca! I'm so sorry I couldn't tell you. it was Patty's idea not mine..." I walked forward and pulled him into a kiss. my lips tingled from his touch, my cheeks burning pink, that felt far better than anything I could possibly have imagined. "What was that?' He stuttered, his eyes blinking fast, his lips still in the same position "what I should've done a long, long time ago" I sniffed he moved in close to me and wiped the tears from my cheeks. "You couldn't have text me...or one of the

guys?" I placed my hand on his hand that was stroking my cheek, "Patty said that I couldn't contact you, because she knew that you'd try and find me" "well what were you doing?" I looked at him, trying to find an answer "looking for your brother" he looked into my eyes, "my...my brother?" I gasped he nodded slowly and looked down "Carter?" I tried to make eye contact with him again "Carter look at me!!" I pleaded to him to look up at me "patty got news that there was an explosion in your brothers camp and that there were no survivors..." I looked at him, I couldn't believe what he was saying "they sent me in undercover because they thought that there was a leak in the camp. Patty sent me out to see if your brother was there..." Tears stowly began to form in my eyes, and then trickle down my cheeks "what are you saying?" I sobbed "your brother..." He began "yeah" my face creased as more tears fell I wasn't ready to hear this, I couldn't hear the fact he was "is stood behind you" he smiled at me, I looked at him confused "what?" I sniffed "I found Him" he smiled.

I turned around slowly and there stood in the doorway was my brother Chris, I ran towads him before jumping into his arms, "oooooh" he groaned, i got down quickly "what? What's wrong?!" I looked at him in search of a wound "few cuts and bruises" he smirked at me, I hadn't seen him in nearly 10 years, only ever heard from him every few months. We walked over back to where Carter was stood leaning on the stairs "you've got a good one there sis" he pulled Carter into a hug "he didn't just find me...he saved me" Chris said as he pulled away "oh no mate you're the fighter" "the bomb went off in base, I was knocked unconscious for a while, when I woke up everything was gone, I wasn't in camp anymore, I was in a ditch that had bodies strewn everywhere, no one was alive, I pulled myself out of the hole and dragged myself for as long as I could" he kept choking on his words, "I got in to the desert and I couldn't hold on anymore, I was in a bad way, I just kept thinking about you" he looked at me, I was in tears again "I found him, he had several shots to his chest and a section of his leg had been badly burnt" Carter continued "he helped me up and found us a safe place where there were people there to help, he kept talking to me, saying he knew you and that I was going home, that's when I fell unconscious again" he smiled at Carter who smiled back. "Do you have a place to stay?" I looked at Chris "yeah it's all sorted".

We drove him home and I got out with him, "do you have everything? I'm only a phone call away if you need anything" I said as I walked towards him and pulled him into a hug, and I didn't want to let go, it felt amazing "right well it's freezing so I best go in" he laughed pulling away "you take care of your friend" he grinned as he walked inside. I jumped back in the car and Carter started to drive, "I've got you a present, actually I got it you for Christmas...but I never got chance to give it you" I pulled out a small box, we pulled up outside my house "what's this?" He laughed nervously "a bomb" i shrugged smiling at him, he laughed as he opened it slowly "BANG" I

shouted at the top of my voice, he shot out of his seat and nearly dropped the box "BECCA!!" He scorned I started giggling which then turned into a full on fit of laughter which then started my hiccups.. "I 'hiccup' I'm sorry!" "What is it?" "Open the 'hiccup' wrapping" I laughed as I held my breath to stop the hiccups, he undid the tissue paper and took out a silver gun keyring with a key on the end "and what's this to?" "That door" I pointed to my front door of the house, "you saying...you saying I can move in? Wow taking our thing to the next step already!" He smirked "Carter, I need you to be patient with me, I realised that when I thought I'd lost you, I lost more than a work partner, and the thought of losing our thing..." "I'm sorry say that again I didn't quite hear you" "I hate you" he smiled at me "you don't hate me" "our thing....but just let me go at a slow pace..." Carter leant forward and placed a kiss gently on my lips.
