I was in the living room when Maria walked into the room with her eyes downcast and her body still shaking from her attack.
"Come here." I found myself saying as she stood there looking scared half to death, her eyes glancing up from under dark lashes. I hated the shock that was on her face, the look of a scared child that longed for touch, love and compassion.
"are you sure?" her innocent, fearful question tugged at my heart.
"of course." I replied softly, motioning to the seat beside o fme on teh couch. After she timidly came over to the couch and took a seat beside of me, she surprissed the both of us by resting her head on my shoulder.
"Don't worry I'll protect you." I whispered and she smiled as she slowly curled agaisnt my side.
"Why would anyone care about a monster? After all that's all I am." she whispered sadly and for a moment I cursed myself for the way I had treated her before.
"No, the monster is the form you couldn't control....Not you. No you are just a child....I'm sorry how we all treated you before." I managed to say despite the lump growing in my throat.
"its okay...I attacked a little kid.....I understand why you were upset."
