Love In The Moonlight (Chapter 4)

Start from the beginning

"So what did he say?" Simone whispered to her over her shoulder.

"He ordered a burger and fries." Kalee looked at her with an attempted bland expression.

"Oh don't pull that with me Kay, I saw your face as you walked back over here. What did he really say? Don't hold out on me, girl." Simone nudged her, giving her a pleading look to spill her guts.

"Oh Simone... if you must know, he wants my number." She sighed as she gazed at the screen in front of her.

"Well did you give it to him?" Her eyes widened waiting for an answer, Simone was nearly bouncing with excitement.

"Hell no!" Kalee shook her head. "The last thing I need to do is bring some guy in my life that is only going to use me and loss me and leave me. Just like Ali's sperm donor. I don't need that heart ache. I don't need to get involved with anyone." Kalee tried to sound convincing but for some reason she couldn't even convince herself. Her shoulders slumping slightly at her weakness.

"Girl, if you don't give that man your number I swear to God I'll do it for you! And you best bet your sweet ass I will!" Simone taunted her. Kalee loved Simone, she reminded her of herself before she got involved with her previous 'mistake'.

Just as Kalee was going to respond Mike yelled over at her, "Kalee, table five's order is up." She glanced over at Mike and nodded then back to Simone, who was giving her a death glare.

"Fine! I'll do it!" With that Kalee pulled out her order pad and scribbled down her number and folded the paper, then she turned to get Connor's food waiting in the window.

"I've got your burger and fries, Connor." Hearing her voice say his name made Connor's heart race and his groin twitch, he yearned to hear her sweet voice say it again. He looked over his food and saw a piece of paper stuck under his plate.

"Thank you, Kalee."

"Anything else I can get for ya?" Kalee's eyes darted between him and the small paper under Connor's plate, now he wanted to know what was on the paper.

"Actually, can I get some ketchup?"

"Sure, I'll be right back." With that Kalee turned and walked away to retrieve a bottle of ketchup. As soon as he could, he yanked the small piece of paper out and opened it...' HER NUMBER!' With the sight of her name and number scribbled quickly on the strip of paper Connor knew there was no turning back at this point in time. How could he ever give this woman up? The effects she had over him were too great. Connor quickly shoved the tiny paper into his pocket and saw Kalee returning. He noticed her eyes darted to where the paper was once hidden, her eyes widened a bit at the sight of it no longer there. Kalee's cheeks flushed again.

"Here ya go," Kalee said a bit out of breath.

"Thanks, Kalee."

"No problem." With that Kalee turned to walk back toward where Simone was waiting.

"I meant for your number." Connor couldn't help but to smile at her as she slowly turned back to face him. She was shocked at what he had said. "So can I take you out sometime?"

"Excuse me?" Kalee said quietly.

"Can I take you out?"

"Ummmm.... " With that Kalee turned quickly and walked back toward her friend as fast as she could with out running.

"Simone!!!" Kalee's eyes were wide and startled. She quickly explained what was just said between her and Connor. "Now what? I'm sure I just frightened the guy off, turning and walking away like a whipped dog!"

"Well one, breathe. It can't be that bad. Two, he is watching you right now smiling. I don't think you did any lasting damage!" Simone giggled as she placed her hands on Kalee's shoulders hoping to calm her down a bit.

"Oh God, Simone what did you get me into?" Kalee dropped her head unable to think of what to do next.

"Girl, I just saved you from living the rest of you life like a nun!" Simone giggled at Kalee's emotional break down. "Just walk over there and tell him you'd love to go out some time."

"And if he asks why I ran away, what do I say then?" Kalee looked at her friend with one eyebrow cocked upwards.

"Tell him the truth, you haven't been in the dating game in a while and were caught off guard by what he said. How hard can that be?" Simone gave her friend a encouraging smile. "Now off you go." She shooed Kalee off.

Kalee turned and sighed heavily and made her way back toward Connor. 'I wont run, I'll be strong, I wont run, I'll be strong... Oh God those eyes, those lips, that hair, he even smells good.... Oh dear Lord help me!'

Connor lifted he head from his meal every few seconds to look for Kalee, she seemed in a deep conversation with her friend. 'Come on Kalee..... just agree to have dinner with me or hell even dessert with me... please come back.' Connor sat there stuffing his face with the burger and silently willing Kalee to walk back towards him. With that Kalee turned and started to walk towards him. 'Oh thank you, God!' Connor finished the bite he had in his mouth and smiled as she approached him, he could tell she was a bit embarrassed.

"I'm so sorry for acting that way, Connor," she spoke softly as her gaze fell down towards the table. "I don't usually act so spastic, I just haven't been asked on a date in a long time so I'm a bit rusty."

"It's no big deal I understand." He smiled as he finally grabbed her line of sight. "So when are you available?"

"Well I have to find out if I can get a sitter." She looked at Connor expecting him to react badly to the news of her having a child.

"I understand." He knew she was expecting that he would be turned off at the fact that she was a parent, but it didn't, he was turned on at the loving heart she had, remembering watching her lift her daughter from the portable crib and snuggle the child to her chest.

"Oh, well I can call my brother and see if he'd keep her over night, if you wanted to get coffee later?"

Connor couldn't help but smile brightly at the fact she couldn't wait to go out with him. "That sounds great. Here," Connor slipped her his business card with his cell phone number on it, "Just call my number when you find out about your little one."

Kalee blushed a beautiful pink that made Connor's heart flutter again, "I will." She slipped the business card in the back pocket of her skirt. Connor's eyes wandered down to look at her skirt, it looked great on her, showing her lovely, well sculpted legs, and he wondered what it would feel like to have them wrapped around his hips. The mere thought made Connor's groin ache once more. "Well is there anything else I can get you at the moment?"

"No, I'm good at the moment." Connor smiled flirtatiously.

Kalee blushed again smiling and turned to walk back toward her onlooking friend, who was smiling as wide as Kalee was. Connor couldn't believe in a matter of a couple hours he'd have her to himself. That's if her brother agreed to watch her daughter.
