Just the Beginning
". . .it was just the beginning." Oscar leaned back in his wheelchair, staring at his finished comic. He was quite glad that he finished it, but it only brought back the sadness from when they lost their powers. Sure life has been quite peaceful without their powers, but it doesn't mean that they don't miss it.
But still, Jake got his scholarship for AFL, Sam was back with Mia, Andy concentrated on his school work, but Felix?

Felix missed his powers.

He fell to depression over it, and it even ended his relationship with Ellen, who was now going out with Andy because she couldn't handle his situation anymore. She gave up on him. He lost everything; the talisman, his powers, Ellen - his Book of Shadows was useless to him now. Now you could hear only sad music in his room that he composed.
Oscar turned to his window when he heard a new composition by Felix. It was somehow sadder than the other ones. Their Dad tried helping Felix since he knew how it felt, but to no vail.

Felix was not fixable.

Or so they thought. . .

"Attention, students!" Bates stood in front of his Science class, siting for their attention. Felix merely fixed his gaze on the desk in front of him, ignoring the concerned glances from his old friends. Ever since they lost their powers, Felix had driven them away. And he looked bad. His eyes were sunken, he was more pale than usual, and his clothes were looking quite baggy on him as if he lost some weight. It was very concerning. Even if Ellen hated him, she was still concerned for him since they have been friends since Primary School.
"Now that I have all your attention -" well, almost, he thought, his eyes flitting to a sick-looking Felix, "-we have a new student in the class. Come on in, Scarlett."
In walked Scarlett May, the new girl. Boys whispered to each other with goofy looks on their faces, the girls merely rolling their eyes at their behaviour. Curious, Felix looked up and felt his eyes widen unwillingly at the sight of the new girl. She had long brown hair that went to her waist with streaks of black and red, she had bright green eyes that was outlined with dark eye liner and shadow, her lips a scarlet red, contrasting with her pale skin. She wore the school uniform with black tights underneath her skirt, wearing combat boots. A black jumper was on her loosely, her black messenger bag held tightly in her hands. For once since he lost his powers, he felt an emotion other than sadness and pain. He felt shock and awe. He was enchanted. He was dumbstruck at the sight of the beautiful girl. It momentarily made him forget about his depression.
"Everyone, this is Scarlett May." Bates introduced to them all. "She's going to be staying with us now. Be sure to make her feel welcomed. Um. . ." Bates surveyed the room, wondering where to make her sir. He couldn't let her sit next the boys, they were already hormonal, the girls will probably pick on her. . .
"You can sit beside Felix." he concluded. "Felix, lift up your hand."
Whispers and murmurs went around at their teacher's declaration. The new girl sitting with the depressed freak? Weird.
Scarlett ignored them, making her way boldly to him. She sat beside him, being sure to give him some space. Felix avoided looking at her and instead doodled around in his science book. The shock about her beauty wore off him, and he was back to being depressed - but a tiny bit was interested about her. Why would someone like her go to some small town?
"Hello." she said, snapping him out of his daze. Felix turned his head slightly to scrutinise her.
"Hi. . ." he said back slowly. Why is she speaking to me?
"Why sad?" she asked him. Felix stared at her with a frown.
"Personal." he said sharply. "You don't need to know."
"Oh. Okay." she frowned. "It's just. . .I've seen this symptom many times before."
"Really?" he asked her sarcastically. "Of course you have. It's depression."
"It's not just that." she shook her head. "You lost your powers." Felix sat up in his chair straighter.
"What did you just say?" How did she know about that?
"Your powers." she repeated slowly. "You lost it." Before he could ask her anything else, the bell rang for lunch. "See you later."
"No - wait!" Felix's hand only brushed her jumper when she passed him, missing her by inches. She was out of the classroom before he knew it.
"Felix?" Andy asked warily. "Are you okay?"
"You were talking to the new girl about something." Ellen added suspiciously.
"It seemed pretty intense to get you out of your sad state." Jake told them, appearing at their side with Sam.
"Yeah, what was it about that got you all shocked and out of your depressed state?"
"It's. . .it's nothing." Felix waved off, making his way out the classroom. "I gotta go somewhere."
"You can't just keep pushing us away, Felix!" Ellen called out to him.
   "Watch me." Felix snapped.

He walked around the school by himself, headphones stuck in his ears on loud. The only times he felt content was when he was listening to music or composing music. That was just about the only happiness he's able to come up with since he lost his magic.
He went to go to the tree that he sits underneath everyday when he stopped mid-step. She was there: Scarlett. She was sitting underneath the tree like he would do, but the thing was. . .

She was doing magic.

She had a small tornado on her hand, Scarlett herself smiling in glee at the sight. "You can do magic?" he exclaimed. Scarlett jumped in surprise, closing her hand into a fist to remove the tornado. "How? Why -"
"I'm Phoebe and Alice's sister." she explained to him. "I've been overseas helping witches around with their powers, and when they lose it. . ."
"Did they send you here? Because of me?" Felix demanded. She shook her head with a small smile on her face.
"They didn't send me. I did." He looked at her confused.
   "What do you mean?"
"Oscar, your brother, he can see things. I can do that as well but mine is more advanced. I can see things without touching anything. And I saw you. Sad. Depressed. Lonely. Everyone gave up on you. You gave up on you."
"What are you going to do, send me to a therapist?" he chuckled humourlessly. "Be my therapist? Not that I'm complaining, you're quite gorgeous -"
"How would you like to get your powers back? Reunite with magic?" she cut him off, staring at him seriously. "Would you like your powers back, Felix?"
"Y-You can do that?" he looked to her hopeful. "You can get me back my powers?"
   "Of course."
"Why do you want to help me so bad?"
"Because you have great potential inside of you, Felix." she told him wisely. "I know that with your magic you will change the world for good."
Scarlett stood up and took a step towards him, hand out to him. "Do you want your powers back?"
"More than anything." Felix breathed out, getting lost in her green eyes that held such wisdom and stories. "I want to feel whole again."
"Your wish, is my command." she whispered, her breath fanning over his face. It smelt like peppermint, and made him feel quite lightheaded. If anything, he wanted to faint in the spot right then because the next thing he knew, her lips were on his, kissing him.
He started to feel warm inside, feel his hands and feet tingling, his stomach making flips. He could literally feel his powers coming back to him. And he also knew that those feelings weren't just because of regaining his powers back; he knew it was also because of the fast feelings he felt for her. For Scarlett May.
And just like that, she pulled away, and it was just the two standing underneath the tree, taking in the needed breath. "Go on," she whispered through pants, "try it."
He slowly raised his hand up while regaining his breath, imagining a flame on his hand. And just like that, it appeared. "It's back!" he whispered in joy. "I-I have my powers. . ."
"Use them wisely." she told him. "Don't lose your compassion. Still be you."
"I will." Felix promised. "Thank you. Thank you so much. How can I ever repay you?" He got an idea as soon as he asked that. "Go out on a dinner with me."
She stared at him shocked. "W-What?"
"Go out on a dinner with me." Felix repeated. "You don't feel that? The link between us?"
"I do." she nodded shyly. "I-I've never really been on a date before. . ."
"Me neither." he admitted. "So why don't we have our first date together?"
"Sure, why not?" Scarlett shrugged. "I'm gonna be staying here for a while. It's only just the beginning."
"Indeed it is." Felix agreed with a smile. "It's only just the beginning."
