The Newborn
Garret arrived to the Cullen house with Emmett and Rosalie, his eyes surveying around the homey place. He heard two different heartbeats; one was a normal one, the other however. . .
"That thrumming heartbeat. . ." he mused.
"That's. . .my daughter's heartbeat." Edward came to him with a small smile. "It's nice to see you again, Garret."
"Likewise, my friend." Garret shook his hand. "You said daughter?"
"This is Renesme," Edward moved to the side to reveal a small girl that looked similar to Edward, "Renesme, this is Garret."
"Hello." Garret greeted the girl kindly.
"Hello, Garret." she said in a somewhat mature voice. He knelt down to her size and allowed her to place a hand on his face. He was amazed at what she showed him.
"Fascinating." he murmured. Then other heartbeat approached. . .along with a stench.
"I'm Jacob Black." an American-Indian boy said. Garret reluctantly shook his hand. "I know, I smell bad and we are natural enemies."
"What a. . .strange family." Garret uttered out. "I'll help, don't worry." He heard something else that he didn't notice before; a slow, quiet heartbeat. As if someone was close to dying. "There's another human?"
"She's in the middle of turning." Edward explained. "Give it a couple more hours."
   "Really?" he asked curiously.
"We were out playing when Renesme saw her." Edward explained. "The woman was badly injured from a beating, Carlisle figured."
"We think the woman escaped from whoever she was getting attacked from and stopped in the middle of the forest." Bella added. "We took her in but saw she wasn't going to last. Who knew how long she was out in the wild."
"So we turned her." Edward concluded.
"Interesting. . ." Garret gave them a small questioning smile. "Mind if I-?"
"Of course. Follow me." Edward led the way.

"She's turning." Garret confirmed. "Look, you can see her skin getting pale, her hair turning healthy, her lips plump and pink."
"Sounds like you fancy this gal." Emmett smirked from his spot beside the door with Edward. Garret gave Emmett a small glare.
"Come on, don't you think she looks rather beautiful?"
"She does, but then. . .I have Rosalie." Emmett shrugged.
"And I have Bella." Edward added. Garret nodded, hovering above her, analysing her. She looked to be in peace, her black hair spread out around her head, her hands laced together on her stomach. She wore a red dress that went to her knees, tight and fitting to her form.
"How long until she wakes again?" Garret asked the two.
"Not long now." Emmett told him. "We found her before we all went to get witnesses."
"Only a couple more hours." Edward told him.
"Or now." Emmett suddenly said, standing up straighter. The other two turned to the woman, to see her eyes moving beneath her eyelids. Garret moved closer to her curiously. "Garret -"
Her eyes opened, revealing blood red eyes. Garret was frozen at the sight of her hypnotising eyes. He was pulled out of the trance when he was suddenly on the ground, the woman on top of him, hissing at him threateningly.
   "Whoa! Whoa!" Garret exclaimed.
"Garret -!" Edward and Emmett went to get her off him.
"No-no!" Garret held a hand out for them to stop. "Don't come any closer!" By then, everyone else had came, Jacob and Bella near Renesme protectively. "Hey, it's okay! Calm down."
The woman continued to growl at him. He gave a small smile. "Hey, my name is Garret. What's yours? Do you remember? I'm not going to hurt you." He hesitantly placed a hand on top of one of hers that was holding him by his collar. "I'm not going to hurt you."
They stared at each other for a while, the woman still growling. But the longer they stared, it longer proved that Garret wasn't going to harm her. Slowly, she stopped her growling, and started loosening her hold on him. Ever so slowly, Garret sat up, the woman eventually sitting on his lap. Garret breathed out a breath he didn't know he held.
"Garret -" the woman's attention went onto the person who spoke, who happened to by Edward. Seeing lots of people overwhelmed her, and she started hissing at them all. Garret quickly moved in front of her, blocking her sight on them all.
"Hey, it's okay! It's okay!" Garret assured her. "They're friends, yeah? Friends." The woman's gaze flitted from his to the others. Her sole attention went to Garret's when his hand went to her face. She stared into his red eyes, getting distracted again. He gave her a small smile. "Why don't we go out, yeah? I bet you're thirsty now." As soon as he said that, her hand went to her throat, gasping. "I suggest you get your daughter and friend to leave the room." The woman's eyes flitted to Renesme and Jacob. Immediately, they all stood in front of them. Protectively. She lifted her lips in a snarl at the sight of a threat on not only her, but on Garret.
"Come on," Garret stood up, helping her up, "let's go hunt."
