Chapter 6

I stare excitedly at Dylan and I's conversation. I'm so excited! I can't wait until Friday! I skip around the theatre, until I see a lot of people still on the stage. It's Lin, Phillipa, Renee, Daveed, Oak, Carleigh, and Jonathan.

They all greet me with kind voices. "So how's school going so far?" Carleigh asks.

"I don't know same old same old. I don't have any friends and I sit alone at lunch." I shrug.

As soon as I say that, Daveed bursts out laughing. "What's so funny Daveed?" Lin asks.

"I think you have more than a friend." Daveed chuckles. Then I realize, Daveed forgot to keep the secret right now. I punch him in the side.

Daveed asks, "Hey what was that for-" but I cut him off by giving him a glare. Daveed's realizes his mistake, and says, "Nevermind."

"Daveed? What we're you talking about?" Pippa asks.

I face flushes red. "We're her foster parents too. We get to know." Lin says.

Daveed sighs and says, "Maddie, I'm sorry. I have to."

I start yelling, "Daveed-" but I'm cut off by Daveed saying,

"Last night, I saw Maddie and a boy kiss. It's quite adorable. I don't know why she wants to hide it." Daveed explains.

I storm out. Why did Daveed have to tell? It makes no sense! Can't I have my own life?

Lin chases after me. I run into my room and slam the door behind me.

A few moments later, Lin comes running in. "Maddie, it's okay if your in a relationship. I just want to know if he's a good kid. I'm basically your dad now, so I should know these things-"

I cut him off by yelling, "No, Lin! You're not my dad. I know you only adopted me because you pity me. You pity my bruises, my abused mind, and my hurt heart."

A moment of silence falls. I can tell Lin's hurt. I immediately regret what I said.

I sigh and mutter, "Lin, I'm sorry-"

But he cuts me off by hugging me and saying, "No need. I just want to eventually meet him."

I laugh and say, "Of course."

Lin gets up and is halfway out the door, before I say, "Wait! Can I maybe hang out with Dylan after school Friday? Dylan is his name. I promise he's a good kid, Lin, trust me-"

I'm once again cut off by Lin saying, "Sure." I smile ear to ear.

Everything with Dylan might work out.

Fast forward to Friday. The week went by so slow, considering I was waiting for today anxiously.
