Chapter Twenty-Two

"No, I'm only mad that you didn't tell me you were going to do that."

Luna shamefully moved her eyes to the floor. Amber couldn't help but be frustrated that she went off to confront Alice, risking her own life, without telling Amber.

After the frightening phone call, Amber rushed out of the home and just drove, doing her best to track down Luna's scent as she drove her mother's red Toyota.

"I'm really sorry, Amber. I didn't want you to come with me, and if I had told you, you would have wanted to come," Luna said.

Luna had caught Amber in the middle of the road. She had hopped in her car with her and Amber quickly drove home as Luna explained everything that had happened.

"Well, this is still my fight since Alice is trying to kill the both of us!" Amber argued.

Oliver pawed at Luna's heels and instead of responding to Amber, Luna picked up the dog and stood.

Amber just wanted Alice out of their lives. She wished Alice were dead, but maybe it was a good thing Luna did not kill her. She might have got captured by the authorities. Then again, maybe not. The kingdom had carefree rulers, who seemed to not do much with their people.

"I'm going to take Oliver for a walk," Luna grunted before walking out of the room.

Amber mumbled under her breath and collasped on the bed. Summer was almost over, and she was beginning to feel nervous about college. Would her and Luna still work? Amber planned to live on campus with Lucy. The college wasn't too far from where they were now, but they both would have to work hard to keep the relationship strong.

A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.

"Come in," Amber called and watched as Hailey peeked through the doors to the room.

A smile lit on Amber's face, but her body tightened with nerves. Hailey was still lurking around, adding to the constant stress of Amber's life.

"Hi, Amber," she said timidly as she slid into the room. Hailey was somehow still single, which Amber didn't understand. "I saw Luna storm out, and just wanted to make sure nothing's wrong."

Amber bet Hailey was wishing something was wrong between them.

"Nah, she's really stressed out right now. That's all."

Hailey sat down on the edge of the blue bed, her skinny legs crossing as her brown eyes studied Amber. "Might I ask what she's stressing about?"

The whole house was already aware of Alice and her tricks, so Amber was irritated that she had to explain again. "Her sister keeps trying to cause trouble."

"Oh, yeah," Hailey muttered.

There were moments of silence between them, and Amber was worried Hailey would try to hit on her. She was thinking of ways to escape the situation when Hailey spoke up again.

"Are you two going to live here from now on?"

Amber hoped not. They still had yet to discuss the topic. "I don't know, Hailey."

Hailey shifted on the bed. "I hope you do. I've missed you."

Amber couldn't help but chuckle. "Do you miss Luna?" She teased.

Hailey chuckled back and looked down, grinning.

"I take that as a no," Amber remarked, mocking Hailey's grin.

After more moments of silence passed, Hailey stood. "I need to eat dinner. You want to join me?"

Amber shook her head, causing her curled hair to sway with her movements. "No, I think I'm going to take a nap. I'm super tired."

Hailey smiled gently and nodded. "Alright, see you later."

Amber smiled back at her and watched her leave the room. She wondered if her and Luna ever spoke at all anymore. She knew Luna still couldn't stand the woman. At least Luna liked her more than she used to.

Keeping to her promise, Amber lay back and was asleep within seconds, dreaming of kissing Luna in the middle of a fire.

This chapter is probably the shortest thing I've ever written. It's been such a  long time that I need to go back and re-read some of the chapters to remind myself what's going on. I just couldn't leave you hanging any longer. I'M SO SORRY. I hope I haven't lost readers ( not that I had very many to begin with ) due to how long it has taken me to update. I've been pretty busy, and really discouraged. I feel like I need to give up with writing, but I promise I will finish this book.

The next chapter should be VERY soon, and hopefully MUCH longer than this one. It's going to be an extremely important one, and I can't wait for you all to read it. ^_^ It's also going to be in Luna's point of view. So please keep reading. :(

  I'm sorry. <3 <3
