“That was great thanks Mrs T.” I said to Hannah’s mom, Ellen.
Emma and Ryan, Hannah’s brother, had already left the table after eating, to go and sit in the lounge with Hannah’s step dad Aiden.
“You very welcome Frankie. It’s great to see you again; I nearly didn’t believe Hannah when she told me that you were coming for dinner.” I smiled politely. “What brings you across the waters anyway?”
“Oh err… My dad had some course thing that sent him here, so I thought I’d come with him and see Hannah, since it’s been so long since we saw each other.” I lied. She knew my dad; I couldn’t tell her the truth in case she rang my dad and told him I was here.
“Ah I see. You should have brought him along too.”
“Oh, no… He wanted to have a look around the city, because it’s the first chance he’s had since we got here, but Hannah and I did that last week so I decided not to go with him.”
“That’s fair enough I suppose. What about your brother? Joey is it?”
“He’s staying with my dad’s friend back home. Dad didn’t want to take him out of school.” I mentally kicked myself for that statement, knowing what the next question would be.
“Shouldn’t you still be in school? Surely you’ve got your finals coming up soon?”
“Yeah I do… My spring break is at a different time to his, and it just so happens that it coincided with the week my dad had this course.”
“Oh right. How inconvenient though, that your spring vacation and your brothers are at different times.”
“Yeah I guess. But at least dad won’t have to be away with work during Joey’s vacation time.”
Ellen nodded in agreement.
“Well I’d better start cleaning these up.” She said as she started to pile the now empty plates up.
“Would you like a hand?” I offered.
“No no. You’re a guest, just relax.” She told me. Hannah glanced and me and smirked. Ellen walked into the kitchen with the stack of plates, leaving me and Hannah alone at the table.
“Yeah, she hasn’t changed one bit since you last saw her.” Hannah said, knowing what I was thinking.
“I forgot how lovely your mom is.” I laughed.
“Come on. Let’s go watch a film.” She grinned, grabbing my hand and dragging me into the lounge.
We spent the next two hours watching Airplane! We were now driving Ellen and Aiden insane, with the help of Emma and Ryan; by quoting it all again now that it was finished. We were interrupted by Hannah’s cell starting to ring. I carried on talking to Emma and Ryan while we waited for Hannah to finish talking.
“Ok buba. See you soon. Love you!” She finally said in a stupid voice before hanging up. “Ben shall be here in about an hour to pick us up.” She informed me.
“Ok.” I nodded.
“I’ve got a couple of episodes of Outnumbered recorded, if you want to watch those before Ben gets here?” Emma said.
“Oh awesome! Which episodes?” Hannah asked.
“Erm. The one where they’re stuck at the airport. And… The episode after that one. I’m not sure which it is. Have you ever seen Outnumbered, Frankie?” Emma asked me. I shook my head.
“Never even heard of it.”
“Ah well we shall have to get you acquainted with it!”
So we spent the next hour or so watching Outnumbered. I had mixed feelings about it. It was funny, but at the same time those kids are pretty damn annoying! If Joey ever turns out like that I swear I will disown him!
“Hannah, Frankie. Ben’s here.” Ellen called from the kitchen. Hannah jumped up to let him in, and a minute later the pair walked into the room. “Do you want a drink Ben? Tea, Coffee...”
“Err yeah ok. Can I have a tea please?”
He sat down with us and Hannah smirked at me before turning to Ben.
“Ben. I spy with my little eye, something beginning with T.” She said. Ben raised his eyebrow wondering what she was doing. “Give up? Time!”
“But Han. You can’t see time.” I chipped in.
“Then why do people say ‘Have you seen the time’?”
Ben’s face dropped as he realized what we were doing.
“No!” He complained, putting his head in his hands. “Why god? Why?!”
We all laughed as Ben sat back again.
“I’m going to ban you from watching those programs Han.” He told her. Hannah laughed a leant against him.
“You wouldn’t do that. Cause you know what would happen.” She smirked. Ben just rolled his eyes.
Ellen walked back into the lounge at that point with everyone's drinks.
“Hope to see you again soon Frankie.” Ellen told me as we were saying goodbye a while later.
“Yeah. You too.” I nodded. She hugged me and then smiled.
“And tell your dad to pop in for a visit if he gets a spare hour or something.” She added.
“I will. Thanks again for lunch.”
The three of us went out and climbed into Ben’s car.
“Hey Han. Where’s your car?” I asked. It had just occurred to me that it would have made more sense for Hannah to drive back to Ben’s instead of him coming to pick us up.
“Oh. It had to go in for an MOT yesterday. I should get it back tomorrow afternoon. So until then, Ben’s got to be my chauffer.” She grinned. I laughed and sat back in my seat, looking out the window at the scenery flashing past.
