I managed to make it to the end of the week without too much hassle or too many problems at work, and I was starting to enjoy working there.

It was Friday morning I was sitting in the kitchen with Ben eating breakfast before we both left for work, not really talking much, just the occasional comment or question.

"So what time to you finish work today?" Ben asked, I glanced up at him and raised my eyebrow.

"Five. Same as always." I replied slowly.

"Right yeah. Sorry." He mumbled. "Are you hanging out with Lee tonight or anything? You know... Just in case I have to cover you for not being home on time." he smirked.

"Oh, I don't know. We might get dinner or something after work but I'm not sure. We won't be out that late even if we do go out."

"Ok. Well I've gotta get going, I'll see you tonight."

"Yeah. See you."

I found Brian sitting in the small staff room with a cup of coffee in front of him, while he played a game on his phone.

"Hey." I notified him of my presence, making him jump slightly.

"Oh hey. I didn't realize anyone else would be in this early." He told me. "I'm normally the first one in."

"Oh. I didn't want to be late... You know, early days of a new job, you've got to make a good impression right?" I smiled sitting down opposite him.

"Ah I see the motive now." He smiled a little.

"So what you playing?"

"Angry Birds."

"Really? I've not played that game in ages." Brian chuckled, not looking up from his phone.

"Well, you need to play it now." I laughed and shrugged. He slid the phone across the table to me and I picked it up. I played the next few levels with Brian just watching across the table. "What do the white ones do? I've never got to these levels before."

"If you tap again after they've been launched, they drop an egg."

"Oi! You two, get to work!" Lee yelled as he walked through. He didn't even give us a second glance before he left through the door to the shop floor.

"Wow, what's crawled up his ass?"

Brian shrugged. "He gets like this sometimes. He'll just randomly be in a shit mood and give the rest of us a hard time. I would have thought you'd know if he was pissed off though... Aren't you guys seeing each other?"

"You know about that?" Brian nodded.

"Everyone does. This place is the worst for keeping secrets. One person finds out and the whole staff know by the end of the day. Staff with the day off probably knew within the hour." I laughed a little as I stood up.

"We should probably get some work done before he comes back. I do not want to get him in a worse mood."

I didn't get to speak to Brian for the rest of the day but we met in the staff room at five when our shift finished.

"So, you got much planned for the rest of the day?" He asked as he grabbed his jacket and keys from his locker. I shook my head.

"No. I'll probably go back to my friends place and we'll watch films or something. That's the usual routine." Brian smiled and nodded.

"Well, if you fancy coming out for a drink, I'm meeting up with some friends at the bar around the corner, you're welcome to join us."

"Won't it be weird... I mean, I don't know anyone you hang out with. What if they don't want me there? Or they think I'm a total freak?"
