“Frankie! Stoo’s here!” Ben yelled upstairs. I was still trying to sort my stuff out. I’d finished my make-up and pulled my dreads back off my face, tying them back with a rubber band, and leaving the pieces of hair that weren’t in dreads as they had turned out when I washed and dried my hair, which of course was somewhere between wavy and curly.
I grabbed my usual plaid hoodie and my wallet and cell before deciding I was ready to go.
“Are you, Joe and Hannah not coming with us then Ben?” I asked as I was heading to the front door.
“Nah. Me and Hannah are going to see a movie tonight. And Joe’s working late to get something done on time before Monday.”
“Oh fair enough. I’ll see you later then.”
“Yep. Have fun.” He shut the door behind me.
I walked to Stoo’s car and climbed in so I was riding shotgun. We didn’t really talk as Stoo drove us to Justin and Lee’s house. We just listened to the CD that was playing, which he had told me was in fact We Are The Ocean. I didn’t know the name of any of the songs I was listening to, but they sounded pretty good, so I wasn’t too bothered about knowing the names of them.
“Stooart!” Justin exclaimed as he dived into the back of the car. “Frankiee!” He added as Lee also clambered into the back and slammed the door shut.
“Dude how much have you had already?!” Stoo laughed at Justin.
“Just the one. I’m saving up for later!”
“Let’s get this party on the road!” Lee yelled. “So how are you liking We Are The Ocean?” he asked me. I nodded my approval. “Good aren’t they?!”
“Thank you guys so much for coming out tonight! It means a lot to us. This will be our last song this evening. It’s called Nothing Good Has Happened Yet!” The dude yelled into the microphone. Lee had told me the guys names, but I couldn’t remember any of them. This was one of the songs that I had liked when I heard it in the car earlier.
When the music faded out I told the guys I was just going to the bathroom and then we could go. I had just washed my hands and dried them on my jeans as I was walking out, when Stoo and Justin came barreling towards me and pushed me back inside, and into one of the cubicles.
“What the hell are you guys doing?!” I exclaimed in shock as they locked the door. Stoo put his hand over my mouth to shut me up.
“Be quiet. They’ll hear you!” he whispered loudly.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, taking his hand away from my face but lowering my voice.
“Lee went to go get a taxi to take us back to the train station, while me and Justin stayed behind to talk to the guys from the band, as the bouncer was kicking everyone out, we overheard someone mention that the Kerrang! Awards After Party is being held here tonight. So we’re hiding in here until it starts and then we’re going to gate crash!” He told me excitedly.
“But if we get caught… won’t we get in pretty deep shit for it? And what about Lee?”
“Yes. But we’re not going to get caught.” Justin told me. “And I just text Lee, basically apologizing for ditching him, but in all fairness, he was never going to get back in here!”
“Ok whatever. So basically I’ve got to spend god knows how long in the cubicle with you guys?”
“Yeah pretty much.” Stoo nodded. “Now smile for the camera!” he grinned holding up his phone, with which he was apparently recording. He then turned the camera to face himself and started talking quietly. “So it’s the Kerrang awards, and we’re hiding in a toilet so that we can meet people, cause the guest list is very tight. This is Justin, whom you probably already know, and our buddy Frankie. We’re going to have to be quiet for about an hour in here…” he told the camera. “So.. See you later guys!” he switched off the camera and put his phone in his back pocket. “What? We’ll make a little blog out of it later. We need proof we’re actually here!” he told me when he saw me looking at him with a raised eyebrow.
