Puppy busied himself with concocting a sandwich that would almost certainly turn my stomach.

I watched Kyle open his lunch pail and scoff. I took the seat across from him. "Problem?"

"Peanut butter sandwich, Cheetos, and Oreos. Same as every fucking day."

Hearing this Puppy gladly chirped, "I'll make a sandwich! I can, right Scott?"

"Go ahead." I granted.

Puppy seemed to enjoy putting things together in the kitchen. Kyle laughed, sitting back. "That's really nice of you." He said kindly to Puppy. "It's like Bailey doesn't think--or maybe he's punishing me for not renewing your contract."

"Speaking of Bailey, Puppy was curious if he could go swimming tonight? You're also welcome of course--it's just sad to drink scotch alone."

Kyle smiled. "Sure. Bailey's been begging me to take him somewhere."

"How'd the talk go?"

He looked a bit uncomfortable. "I was too...tired to bring it up. I'll talk to him about it eventually Boss."

"You can call me Scott you know. I consider us to be friends."

"No problem," he replied. "Eh--is he putting peanut butter on the turkey?"

I gave him a tight smile. "He is. If you could play it up a bit I'll send him upstairs."

"Maybe it'll be good?" Kyle suggested feebly.

I smiled. "We can only hope."

"I don't think I'll even complain about peanut sandwiches again--Jesus." Kyle muttered. "And I thought Bailey sucked--no offense."

I laughed weakly. Honestly I was feeling a bit queasy. Two bites was two too many. "He tries." I decided. "It's hard for him. He hasn't tasted most of this."

"I'd say." Kyle muttered. "On the plus side I've lost my appetite."

I chuckled. "He'll back shortly. Spare his feelings please."

Kyle nodded his head, taking another gulp of water. Puppy came in shortly after. "I found it in your office--I thought you don't wear your watch when you work?"

I fastened it with a smile. "Today's special."

"You're done?" He realized.

"Yes. It was wonderful Puppy. Thank you."

He blushed, beaming. "Thank you. Did you like it Kyle?"

I looked at the rough and tumble man. He put down the water. "Uh yeah. It was a great. Thanks kid."

"Thank you! Maybe I can make you another sometime?" He asked somewhat nervously.

"Maybe." I confirmed. "Bailey can come swimming with us tonight."

"Really?" Puppy asked excitedly. "Yay! Is he coming here tomorrow?"

"Nope," Kyle said happily however when he saw Puppy's face fall frowned. "I get you like hanging out with him but he has other jobs to do at home, you know? Like your chores here?"

"I don't have chores." Puppy replied. "Maybe Bailey can come back when he's done?"

"Puppy we talked about this." I cut in.

He sighed heavily seeming distressed. "Okay. I just... I like talking to him."

Kyle scoffed. "How do you get a word in with him yaking away all the damn time?"
