Chapter 1- new beginnings

RILEY'S P.O.V

Today is so far a really good day, I got a new hair cut and new clothes, all for a good purpose. I got my license, finally! And last but not least and the most important thing I got was MY ACCEPTANCE LETTER FROM THE NEXT STEP DANCE SCHOOL! I'm excited to start tomorrow, hopefully I can actually make friends this year and not be a loser and sit in the corner like I did at my last studio.

Everyday it was hell for me, I was at Elite which isn't a bad dance studio, we are known for winning the most competitions in the country! Yeah we've one regionals tons of times and nationals once, a year ago. We've never won internationals though because one, last Season was our first time going and two, we got beaten out by another team. I really had no idea that the international's competition would be this much work. This year my team is now going back to regionals and that's a big set back for me. That's just one of the reasons I auditioned for the next step. I knew they were going to internationals this year. Elite is on a whole new level than the next step, were suppose to be known as the bigger and better team but so far I don't feel like a winner. Our team isn't cut out to all it seems to be, the public and press make it seem like we're all nice and the team gets along but that's not true! at the end of the day I just feel so broken down.

We've been up against the next step twice at regionals a long time ago but that's about it. After going to nationals last year, the next step really got their shit together. They won regionals, than went on to nationals while we were at international's and now we're back to the start and their off to international's.

I've seen them dance,their amazing and it would be awesome to be part of their studio and maybe win international with them. They seem like such a cool and fun team to be around, so I've heard.

Anyways back to Elite, our dancing is good and we are a strong team but our coach is hella rude to us and makes us work our Ass' off 24/7 plus the kids all are very snooty so I didn't have a lot of friends. Amanda was dance caption at our studio but last dance season she got really injured and she couldn't dance so that's why I think our team lost. Lucien (our coach) got pissed at her for not stretching and preparing well enough (which is so dumb because anyone could get injured at anytime) so Amanda just left, I guess she had enough. I wonder where she's dancing now?

"I hope we are roommates again steph" I see and hear my older sister Emily sitting on the coach, talking to her best friend Stephanie over the phone. Emily is my older sister and I love her but at times she can be demanding and bossy but she just wants what's best for me.

"Ok I got to go pack, see you tomorrow! Byeeeee" Emily hangs up the phone and I stop her at the stair case before she can run up to her room and pack. "Hey little chicky what's up?" I'm really nervous to tell Emily this because she won't understand "I-um"
"Riley you're stuttering again, just take a deep breath and tell me what's on your mind" I lift my head up to her's so that we're making eye contact.

Emily goes to the next step. She's been going there since baby ballet classes (which is the lowest class you can take at the next step) and that's how I found out about the the next step In the first place. I really wanted to go all these years but Emily insisted I didn't because she didn't want me to be known as 'Emily's little sister' she wanted me to make new friends and be my own person but the more I hear about the next step the more i want to go! Emily is also dance captain at the main A-troupe studio and she always brags about how awesome the studio is!

When I found out that it was changing locations and turning into a boarding school I needed to sigh up, audition and get in! The only problem is my sister has no idea that I'm going and I really don't like hiding things from her so I just need to be straight up and honest about this situation. She will be happy for me right? "Riley listen I have to pack so hurry up and tell me" Emily keeps pressuring me and I'm just not ready to tell her yet.

My parents haven't even found out I got accepted because they've been at work all day, I'll just tell them later tonight in private. I can tell if my sister finds out tonight she'll just be pissy but I don't want her to find out tomorrow either because that's the first day of settling in so what should I do? "it's nothing, really. Sorry for wasting your time" I smile a little at her and then put my head down "are you sure?" She widens her eyes and puts one hand on my shoulder. Of course I'm not sure! But I just can't right now. "Yup, well you better go pack" I gesture for her to go to the top of the stairs while I follow behind her. Speaking of packing I have to do that to! I just hope everything works out for me at this new school, I just really want this to be a new beginning for me.
