Starting Her new Life

I walk up to the casket, heart pounding in my chest,

but keeping my composure, is what I do best.

To see her laying there so cold, lifeless, and still,

this isn't her, this isn't true, this is not real.

*

Her eyes are sewn shut, I can see the stitches,

I keep looking, searching, then my breath hitches.

Under the makeup, that hides her beautiful face,

her swollen and bruised exterior is out of place.

*

The beautiful woman that I've known my whole life,

was the most amazing daughter, sister, aunt, and wife.

There will never be a moment, that I won't remember,

of the love she would give, that was so warm and tender.

*

Her patience, pure heart, and true loving ways,

will keep on living, long after the end of her days.

Gone from her body, but will forever live within,

as her new life and new journey with Him begins.

(This goes out to my Aunt. We buried her today. She was 57 years young, and had the most beautiful heart there ever was. RIP Aunt Jamie..)
