Chapter 5: Inbitasyon

Elise's POV

I was in the library at the moment, sitting quietly at the corner. I was so busy reviewing for the long quiz tomorrow. Vivian wasn't with me because she's busy doing something on the computer lab.

Nang mangalay ang leeg ko sa pagbabasa ay nag-inat muna ako sandali. Saka ko naman natanawan si Jen na mukhang papunta sa direksyon ko. She was alone and my forehead creased when I saw her smiling at me. I looked around my back to see who she was smiling at but no one was there and I am the only one sitting at this direction. So? I thought it was really for me?

"Hi, Elise. Mind if I join you here?" I almost startled when I heard her talking to me. Hindi ko napansing nakalapit na pala siya sa akin. Good thing that she didn't notice my reaction.

"S-Sure." I nodded, reluctantly.

Actually, nagtataka ako this past few days. After ng ranking announcement bigla siyang naging mabait sa akin. She started talking to me in a casual way. Sabi niya mas maganda daw sa pakiramdam nang grumaduate na walang samaan ng loob.

I wonder what she had eaten?

When she finally seated infront of me, I resumed reading my notes but I can't find my concentration anymore. I am not being rude but I find it awkward being with her right now. There were still many empty seats in the library so I think she really intend it. I mean...

"Uhm, Elise." Rinig kong sinabi ni Jen. Agad akong napaangat ng tingin sa kanya.

"Yes?" tanong ko. I knew it. She came here for something.

"I think...we're cool now, right?" there was a doubt in her voice.

Hindi agad ako nakasagot. Are we?

"Of course." I just said. She smiled at me after hearing it from me like she was happy to hear it.

"So...Would you mind if I'll invite you at my birthday party?" her voice was laced with hope.

"H-huh? When?" I asked.

I already heard about her upcoming birthday party to our classmates but I never thought that she will be inviting me.

"This weekend na." sagot niya then she handed me an invitation card.

"Here... Nakalagay dyan kung saan ang venue at kung anong oras magsisimula. Don't worry, ininvite ko na rin si vivian." Ngiting saad niya matapos niyang i-abot sa 'kin iyon.

I don't know what to say but I just nodded.

"Thank you, Elise! I will really appreciate kung makakapunta kayo." Binitbit na niya ang mga libro niya.

"I will expect you there, bye!" She dismissively said before finally leaving me.

I was thinking about her invitation when Vivian came.

"Hey? Jen invited you too?" Tanong agad nito sa 'kin nang makita ang invitation card na hawak ko.

I nodded.

"Pupunta ka?" Tanong ulit nito.

"Hindi ko alam.." sagot ko sa kanya habang nililigpit ko ang mga notes at libro ko.

"You know what? I smell something fishy about it." She suspiciously said.

"Bakit naman?" napakunot-noo ako.

Luminga-linga pa ito sa paligid bago nagsalita.

"Isipin mo ha. Bigla na lang siyang nakikipagbati at pagkatapos ay inimbitahan pa tayo sa birthday niya. There were really something wrong." She rolled her eyes.

"Hmmm.. Malay mo naman talagang nagbago na yung tao diba? Lahat naman tayo may karapatang magbago." Tugon ko rito na agad na nagpakunot sa noo niya

"Uh-huh? So when did you became her lawyer?" she said with sarcasm. I laughed at her remarked.

"So, what do you think? Pupunta ba tayo?" Vivian asked after awhile.

I shrugged my shoulders. "There's no harm in trying."
