- After they had Dylan, Matthew and Valerie realized they had fallen out of love with each other bit stayed in a lavender marriage bc they're both gay

- Even tho Valerie never had romantic feelings for Matthew, after having Dylan, and explaining to Matthew that she wasn't in love anymore, they still considered each other friends. So when Matthew died, she was actually in mourning. She wasn't just moving on immediately. She lost her best friend.

- Pepper (Matthew's old dog) was in training to become a support animal, and would come and lay on top of Valerie when she had panic attacks after Matthew died.

- Valerie would have times where she would heavily disassociate and would just look like she was just spacing out. She would disassociate whenever she was stressed, and oftentimes, Matthew would have to be the one to try to bring her back
