Evelyn's POV:

I sat in the chair as I did my best to copy off my mom's stance. Except for the fact that this dress is making it almost impossible to do any sort of good posture. And I could tell as I wiggled around in my seat that my mother was giving me a wide eye. Signaling me to stop.

My heart began to beat even faster, as I felt my anxiety begin to rise in my head.

Calm down. Calm down. You have done this a million times, Evelyn.

What's so different now?

Well. I will tell YOU what's different. You are about to be elected as the new queen in less than a couple of years, and you need to show the people of Agevin that you can rule this land, just as good as your mother.

With beauty and grace.

My eyes searched the whole crowd as they all bent down and curtsed.

A smile touched my lips as they all raised back up and began to golf clap slightly.

My ears filled with the sounds of people's hands, as I couldn't help but get a glance at Kane standing to my right, against the wall.

He must have felt my eyes on him because as soon as I looked his way, my eyes met his for the millionth time today. I swear, I can not get a break from him today.

He gave me a single nod as he smiled slightly, trying to make me feel a little more comfortable.

I nodded back as I smiled slightly, trying not to cause attention.

My father cleared his throat suddenly, causing the whole room to go silent.

"Hello everyone, I am so happy you could all enjoy us tonight to celebrate the first ball of the season." He said as he stood up, waiving his arms around in a formal way.

"And I want to personally thank you all for coming here, some from very far places."

A short pause came as my father scanned the room.

"Now, with that being said, let the ball begin!"

Music began to fill my eardrums, as people began to stand up straight and walk around to gossip. Some went to the floor and danced with fellow suitors, while others stood in the corners and saulked

But as my eyes searched the desperate mothers, trying to find their daughters a match, I couldn't help but chuckle slightly. And I didn't even mean for it to happen, but it did, and their was no way of stopping it.

I suddenly heard my mother clear her throat as she eyed me like a serpent.

"That is not lady like, Evelyn."

I rolled my eyes. "I was only laughing mother, is that a crime? Or would you rather me sit here and look like a statue."

Her head darted towards mine as she lowered her voice. "I am done dealing with your disrespect, Evelyn. Now, it's time to straighten up."

I gulped.

My mother's head turned back around as that perfect smile went straight back onto her face.

She made sure not to show her anger through that perfect grin. She didn't want anyone to know what she was truly feeling. And to me, I called that bullshit.

I suddenly looked ahead to find a young man approaching our chairs, as my father began to walk down to him.

He was accompanied by an older gentleman, who had dark brown hair. As you could tell, he was getting old due to some of the grey and his wrinkles. This older man held his posture with grace and honor as I watched him and my father shake hands.

My father then looked over at the younger one as the gentleman began to bend over in a curtsey.

My father nodded once in approval, and a small smirk covered his face.

He was pleased. I could tell. And I didn't even know who these people are.

My mother gasped as soon as she saw them together. "That is Duke Maxwell and his son Sir Brady Maxwell. I hear they have traveled all the way from their kingdom to celebrate the season with us."

I extended my head the slightest bit, trying to get a better glare of the Brady.

I still remained to keep my posture, as my eyes finally got a glimpse of him.

His blonde hair had the slightest curl to it, as his jaw muscles basically defined his whole face. His dark blue eyes shined in the chandelier reflection as he suddenly smiled. His white pearls smiled so brightly that it would make any woman immediately fall in love. Except, I didn't feel anything.

He was stunning. And their was no doubt it my mind that he would be the talk of the season. But, for some reason, looking at him makes me feel like I am missing something.

All of a sudden, his eyes looked up, as his blue orbs meant with mine.

The corner of his mouth went up slightly, as did mine.

I felt my cheeks blush slightly as I felt my mother's eyes on me.

"I think he is a very handsome young man, don't you, Evelyn?"

I smiled as I looked at her. "Yes. Indeed, mother."

But I couldn't help but feel this emptiness in my chest, as soon as I looked to my right, and once again locking eyes with Kane. Who stood their, glaring at not only me. But also at Brady.
