6) Relinquished

I try to keep my distance

to build up some resistance

but you always seem to manage

to be my disadvantage.

Whenever my thoughts wander

my mind begins to squander

because the only thing I see

is you smiling, right at me

But whenever you’re around

I can’t hear another sound

and as my heart begins to race

I just wait for your embrace

With your mood you keep things light

 always grinning, day to night.

Optimism is in your genes

I can never fight your means.

One of these days you may know

how much I try not to show.

You certainly did make it hard

to keep up a tiny guard.

Even that will soon disperse,

to keep you out feels much worse.

because now, you’re more than a crush

and I can no longer hush.
