The next day...
Scene starts at the hospital. Demi is in her wheelchair talking to one of the staff. There's two railings in front of her either side. Joe sitting in the corner of the room on his phone.
Physiotherapist: Are you ready, Demi?
Demi: Yeah, y-yeah, let's try.
Joe looks up from his phone and watches
Demi stands up while grasping the railings
Demi: Joe, l-look, I'm actually s-standing.
Joe: That's incredible Dem. I'm so proud.
Physiotherapist: Can you try to step forward for me?
Demi: A l-little.
Demi moves her foot up and moves it forward
Physiotherapist: There we go, and again.
Demi does the same again
Physiotherapist: And once more.
Demi tries to move but doesn't as much as the last time
Demi: That's all I c-can do.
Physiotherapist: That's fine. Really good, you're doing more and more each time, which is what we want.
Demi is helped back into her wheelchair
Physiotherapist: Right then, I'll see you next week?
Demi: Yep. Thanks again.
Demi and Joe leave
Joe: I didn't know you could stand now!?
Demi: I can't really without the railings. (laughs lightly)
Joe: Guess I've been gone a while then, huh?
Demi: Yeah, y-you haven't been to one of these s-sessions with m-me since the accident.
Joe: Really? That long ago?
Demi: Y-yeah Joe.
Joe: Well shit. Sorry, Dem.
Demi: It's f-fine. Adele and Ethan c-came with me quite a b-bit.
Joe: Oh, ok. I'm glad you had someone with you then.
Demi and Joe are waiting for the lift
Ethan and Adele are round the corner arguing - Demi and Joe overhear
Adele: I'm just trying to help you, Ethan.
Ethan: I don't need your help all the time. I'm standing, aren't I.
Adele: Ethan, just let me take the bag. You're gonna fall.
Ethan: I'm not, just go, it's fine. I'll see you later.
Adele: Don't you want me to come with you?
Ethan: No, it's fine.
Ethan walks off
Adele comes around the corner to see Demi and Joe
Adele: Shit. Did you guys hear all that?
Demi: Yeah.
Joe: Every word.
Demi: W-what's up with him?
Adele: He's getting fitted for the prosthetic today and is nervous, so I was gonna go with him, but you heard what he said.
