Scene picks up where it left off - at school and it's lunch time. Joe was sitting with the group and Demi had just had a seizure but had forgotten who Joe was.
Adele: Do you not remember Joe?
Demi: I-I d-d-don't know.
All look concerned, Joe looks as if he's going to cry
Joe: ...I was your boyfriend.
Joe smiles gently as he thinks about the memories
Demi: Y-y-you were?
Joe: Yeah Dem.
Demi: W-wow. Y-you're the one w-where I c-c-cut my h-hair?
Joe: Yeah, we were together then, you're right.
Joe smiles slightly
Joe: I'm err, gonna get going guys, don't wanna be late for class.
Kayla: Class don't start for another twenty minutes though?
Joe: I know, I just- sorry.
Joe walks off in a hurry
Ethan: Joe?
IN MATHS CLASS
Kayla sits next to Demi near the front of the class. Joe is near the back close to Jesse and Lacey.
Kayla: You okay Dem?
Demi: Y-yeah. J-just think-king.
Ethan walks into their class
Kayla: Ethan?
Ethan: (to Maths Teacher) Hi Sir, I've been told I've moved up to this class?
Maths Teacher: Ah yes, I was told someone was. Take a seat wherever you like.
Ethan sat by Demi and Kayla
Jesse and Lacey start whispering to each other, Joe is near them and overhears
Lacey: Oh god, there's another one of them who's a cripple now. (Laughs)
Jesse: Won't be long till the rest of them turn out like that!
Lacey: At least he can speak properly!
Kayla looks at Ethan
Kayla: For fucks sake.
Demi: A-are they t-t-talking about us?
Jesse and Lacey start laughing louder
Lacey: Her brains even fucked up as well!
Jesse: How can she not understand something simple!?
Demi overhears but stays silent
Joe: Will you guys leave her alone? She had a car accident, that's why she's in that chair. Anyways Jesse was probably the driving the fucking car that hit her!
All students go quiet and listen in
Jesse: So what if I did? What the fuck would you of all people do?
Jesse laughs
Lacey: Anyways, why should we have to put up with her?
Joe was about to answer when the Maths Teacher overhears
Maths Teacher: Jesse, Lacey, go to the principles office.
Jesse and Lacey stay seated and don't move
